BUMBLEBEE Features A Quick And Missable Cameo From John Turturro's TRANSFORMERS Character

Though BUMBLEBEE is a subtle reboot of the Bayformers era, viewers are aware that the film does not cut off all ties. A small blink-and-you'll-miss-it cameo is just one detail that webs them together.

Let's get this out of the way, Bumblebee is the Transformers movie we deserve. The film, which is now the number one movie at the international box office, has delivered a fresh new take on the franchise, one with lovable characters and a whole lot of potential for great sequels. But when all is said and done, the spinoff may not be profitable enough for a sequel, so if you haven't seen it - What are you waiting for!?

Serving as a soft reboot of the franchise, Bumblebee still values some of the mythos and base designs Michael Bay established - Sector Seven included. In the series, the face of that government organisation has always been John Turturro's Agent Simmons. Appearing in all of Bay's films, save for Age of Extinction, the character has always been someone the protagonists turned to. And while John Cena's Agent Burns has taken the mantle in Bumblebee, Simmons still appears in a small capacity.

During a scene inside the Sector Seven headquarters, an agent is seen briefing Cena's Burns for a fleeting moment, quickly exiting the frame. It is clear that the Agent is an inferior during this exchage, but a close watcher will be able to spot the Agent's nametag: Simmons. It is unclear whether there is potential for a younger iteration of the character down the line, but knowing this is a reboot, it is unlikely the agent would keep consistant with his Bay counterpart. If you're looking for a reason to watch Bumblebee again, this is the opportunity.

I had no idea young Turturro was even in this movie until after I saw it and was looking up stuff about it afterwards.

Noticed this right away. Although there weren’t many connections to the Bay movies in this, I really wish they didn’t include any.

@LNBfett12 - Well considering the movie was originally written as a prequel, but they changed stuff during reshoots makes sense why there are still some conenctions

this article is a couple weeks late but still cool. Less cool that this gives reason to support that it's a prequel and not a reboot.

to me, Bumblebee is a straight up reboot bc i don't want this to be anywhere near the Bay-verse. It's had its run, it was okay, but I want a new universe with better stories and characterization.

@Cayo - it actually created a plot hole. Simmons, in the first film, acted as though meeting Optimus Prime was first contact. However, we now know that he was present when Dropkick and Shatter were working with Sector 7.

@tBHzHomer - Because it's a reboot. Or else there's a hell of a lot more problems than just that. Bee coming to earth in the eighties instead of before world war 2, Optimus and seven other Autobots coming to earth at the end of the film, during the eighties when Optimus and four other autobots arrive for the first time in 2007. The list just goes on. It just doesn't fit with the other films.

@WYLEEJAY - I agree that it is actually a soft reboot. However, Optimus and others showing up isn't a plot hole. It's already been explained that they showed then and left. Coming back once the find out the Allspark was here. The part with Bumblebee and WW2, you're right. Definitely a plot hole.

It’s weird that this movie, which contradicts the Bay films in various ways (character designs, plot, and timeline changes) is still trying to hold onto them. It’s 99% a reboot and 1% a prequel. I just wish they had gone full reboot, and given Bay’s series the boot.

@santoanderson - It kinda reminds me of X-Men: First Class in that it chooses to keep the bits and pieces that the new director likes about the previous movies (which, in Transformers' case, doesn't seem to be many) and pitches itself as a prequel, but for the most part it feels like it's own, separate thing.

Wohoo! Spider-verse won the Golden Globe for best animated film, and was given the award by the cast of Black Panther.
