BUMBLEBEE Passes $400 Million Worldwide; Is The Leggiest TRANSFORMERS Film In The Franchise

After a relatively small opening, many were wondering if the Travis Knight-directed film would wither away. But thanks to holiday legs and the international box office, this is fortunately not the case.

Who ever thought that fans would be rooting for a Transformers movie to make money, and that a film from the franchise would ever be an underdog after nearly a decade of being juggernauts at the box office. Breaking down the statistics surrounding the film, it sure seems as though Bumblebee is a win for both Paramount and a fans, easily making a case for a sequel.

According to Deadline, the Transformers spinoff has just crossed the $400 million threshold, consisting of $113 million domestically, and $287 million internationally. Keep in mind that Bumblebee has a budget nearly half that of the latest slew of Transformers sequels, making profitability far easier. With the production and marketing budgets likely totaling around $260 million, with huge breaks from LA and Tencent China, the spinoff has no doubt made a profit. It is worth noting that The Last Knight lost the studio $100 million the year before, making Bumblebee a huge sigh of relief for the studio and the viability of the brand.

Fueled by China's support of the film, Bumblebee took the spot as the #1 movie in the world last week. The film has grossed $130 million in the market so far, and is expected to leg out to $160 million. A opening weekend multiplier of 2.5x is very impressive when it comes to China's standards, further proving the power of word of mouth. The opening weekend multiplier domestically currently stands at 5x, which is rarely seen when it comes to blockbusters, then again, it did come out during the holidays.

The film is expected to finish its run at around $460 million once all is said in done. Bumblebee opens in its final market, Japan, in March.

@dracula - maybe she doesn't realize they're having two female characters in it lol, she's just salty there won't be another paycheck coming her way, AND the character she played was the least liked out of the 4 (which were all still below Rick Moranis level lol)

She seriously needs to get over it, and her saying stuff like this was part of the reason the movie failed, when the cast and director started calling people sexist for not liking it.

Seriously, female led films make money as well, Wonder Woman, Hunger Games, hell Buffy The Vampire Slayer is considered one of the best genre shows in all of television. Plenty of film series get rebooted, thats what happens, you fail, you get replaced, and Ghost Busters 2016 failed, and all reboot get hate at first, but good reboots change peoples mind, hard to do that when you are insulting potential viewers. This "Real" Ghost Busters film isnt a "Real" Ghostbusters film because its staring men, its a "Real Ghost Busters film because it stars the original cast. Plus the 2016 cast cannot be included even if anyone wanted them to be included, that film ignored the original 2 films, this is connected to those original films, they screwed themselves. I didnt see her movie cause the trailers were crap, but there are plenty of female led films I do like.

Seriously people need to stop playing the sexist or racist card every time something happens. Black Panther was a great film, there were other great films, and plenty of african american led films win awards, so I dont see how its racist that it lost best picture. Its more like a bias towards comic book movies. Like I said plenty of female led films are sucessful.

Plus this isnt her franchise, she replaced another group of actors, just like she is being replaced, its happened to Batman, Superman, Planet of the Apes and plenty of other franchises, so dont act like your being singled out.

@bobevanz - Plus its not her franchise, she replaced a group of actors now she is being replaced, thats how it goes, she failed, now she is replaced, happens to plenty of other franchises led by women and men, so she has no right to act like they are being singled out. If you want more of my thoughts, there is a longer coment

This movie has so much heart, yet still has fantastic action sequences. The designs are simple but the rendering makes them feel more alive. Plus the 7 or 8 minutes of Cybertron was so satisfying to see. If they play this out like an MCU or DCU with a few solo stories leading up to maybe an accurate Unicron will really bring in the bucks! Travis Knight, you rule! Kubo is the best stop motion film ever! Change My Mind lol

It was a decent movie - definitely the best of the Transformers movies so far. I enjoyed the action and the simplistic looks of the Transformers themselves. However, I didn't care for Steinfeld's "Charlie" that much, although I think that can be attributed to the writers.

I don't think I want Travis Knight taking on a CBM in the future. Maybe.
