Transformers 2: A review from someone who loved the series

Well, if you asked me, the movie sucked. The target audience for this movie should have been me... a 34 year old who has the money to spend on this stuff, and who watched, and loved, the series and movies as a child.

Review Opinion

It just fell flat on it's face. All the personalities of the Autobots, the little we were allowed to see, was the personality of an obnoxious teenager - the apparent target audience Michael Bay made the film for.

There are so many little things that could have been done to make this movie passable...

I see Soundwave in the film, and I get excited. But, he looks like every other decepticon in the film. And his voice is wrong. How hard would it have been to digitize his voice a little more. And he just sits stuck to a satellite the whole damn movie. He should have had a larger part. Ravage, however, was one of the best parts of the movie. Why a satellite sucking robot fired out a panther-robot is beyond me (tho it makes sense in terms of the original series).

Starscream - again - they could have made the voice a bit better. His personality was ok, but they didnt show enough of it. Starscream being the treacherous right hand to Megatron was always a great part of the series. Here, he has such a minor role.

Megatron - Since when is Megatron a suckass, kissup pussy? What I find hillarious is after he is raised, he tears into Starscream, telling him that even in death, I lead. Then he turns to The Fallen, and kisses his ass. No, sorry, Megatron kisses no ones ass. The only time he ever served anyone was Unicron, and even then, he did it grudgingly, only out of his own need to survive. In this film, Megatron is a minion, and thats just sad.

Optimus - Sorry, he shoulda stayed dead. The movie is the Revenge of the Fallen, obviously part 2 in a 3 part series. Lucas had it dead on right with Empire Strikes Back - with the Empire winning the end of that movie, leading into part 3 in darkness. I assumed that what this would be. Dead optimus. Maybe dead Sam. Movie #3 starting in darkness and dispair... Oh well.

Where the hell were the other autobots? They were barely in this film. I saw Ratchet in the credits... I dont remember seeing him in the film but for a moment...

Oh, and how about Car Car Binks? Seriously? That was the most baseless, racist, pandering piece of crap I've ever seen. A ROBOT SOLDIER with a gold tooth and an autobot symbol on it? And it's ILLITERATE? And it grew up in the ghetto? And... wait... I have to go vomit.

I've loved the Transformers since they came out. I still feel the original movie was, and is, one of the best animated films of all time. I cant hear The Touch and Dare without getting chills. Walking out of the first TF movie of a few days ago, I'd have paid $100 then and there to see the sequel if it had been ready... I loved it so much. I'm glad I didnt. The sequel sucked.

Transformers is like an old piece of sh*t rotting on the floor. Yeah, it was that bad. I’m just stunned by how bad it was. Yes, I know it’s an action movie and yes, I know it’s Transformers so I shouldn’t be expecting any piece of art but seriously, wtf is up with this movie???????????? It is HORRIBLE. Horrible script; the movie is too long filled with conversations about nonsense and scenes that have nothing to do with anything!!!!!! Do I really want to see Sam’s parents trying to be funny for an hour?? This is not Seinfeld , it is TRANSFORMERS.

And…OMG please someone tell me what the heck is up with that Megan Fox? Hey Megan, we get that you're pretty, we get that you’re sexy, but do you really need to be pouting in like EVERY SCENE? Explosions, people dying but there’s the b*tch putting her sexy face and dressing like a sk*nk for half the movie. Seriously, get Megan out of there and take her to acting school ASAP. Oh and please slap her so she stops trying to be sexy all the time and stops wearing that freaking pink lipgloss. Damn, Sam (Shia) was all dirty and beat up while Megan looked perfect and flawless all the time. C’mon how freaking annoying. And now we have to see her playing the exact same part of the sexy pouting damsel in distress in Jonah Hex. Jeez. She’s so beautiful but that’s gonna be her ruin if she keeps “acting” like this.

I agree with everything you said. The movie was horrible.

Even the teenagers in the theater were all talking about how crappy the movie was.

The first one was AWESOME. It is one of my favorite movies ever. I can't believe they couldn't have at least made a movie on par with the first, right?

I really do feel robbed with this movie. The studio/Bay could have cared less about making a good movie. They knew they were going to make a lot of money regardless.

...as for me, I'm not watching the third one in theaters until I absolutely know it is a good movie. If it isn't, I MIGHT rent it.

I went to this movie because I am currently in college working on 3D modeling. Aside from the beautiful robots that vaguely resemble the show I watched when I was young, I wanted to tear my hair out. The original movie was no less dense, but it was short, and the Transformers had PERSONALITIES!!! This movie was mindless eye candy, and when it wasn't boring me with painful stabs at humor, it was busy making no sense at all.

this sequel is sucks big time. i agree with the review, Megatron never served anyone, and Optimus is to "evil". prime personality supposed to be a good and justice warrior, not a "bad ass, do not f#ck with me or i will cut your metal head and rip your cybernatic spine. and how about the collage chick that turn into humanoid machine with deadly weird tongue. dude WTF, this is transformers not terminators. and how about soundwave with tentacles (remember the squid thingy from the Matrix.

I completely disagree! I've heard some people saying some things about this movie not following the source material, but from what I understand this movie actually brought it BACK to the source material. It brought in the quest for energon, as well as The Fallen, and is a great opening for the story of Unicron and why The Fallen was evil. And It only makes sense that Megatron would have had some one that had twisted him. Both he and The Fallen were followers of Unicron. Just in this one, instead of him getting trapped in another dimension, he falls into the background and trains a new evil leader to rise. The end effect is still the same.

So, Optimus is still ther, Megatrons back, The Fallen has been revealed, and so has the quest for Energon. Seems to me like we're on a good track to some Primus and Unicron plot material. So what is everyone so upset about? It's a fun movie! So allow yourselves to have some fun!

Thats the damn problem. I dont want a FUN movie. I want a GOOD movie. I've seen comments like "Its robots blowing up robots, just shut your brain off and relax and have fun!"

I dont want to shut my brain off. I want my BRAIN to be entertained, not just my eyes and ears. You make a GOOD movie, and it'll be fun. You make a FUN movie, and it's likely to suck wrecking-ball-testicles.

Oh, wait...
