The Governor Is Back! What Happens Next On THE WALKING DEAD?

In the last few seconds of last Sunday's episode of The Walking Dead, we got a surprise in the form of a one-eyed mad man, lurking just outside the prison grounds. The Governor is back but how will he get his revenge on Rick and co.? Said Gimple, "We will be really getting into who this guy is, to further define this guy. He did something very pronounced at the end of the season that defines him a certain way that affected him a great deal. That’s changed him a great deal. So we will see who this man is now. There will absolutely be a flashback element to filling in some of those blanks. More so, I would say, than we did with rejoining the prison. We know what he did. He killed those people. We know that Rick welcomed basically the remaining people in. That town did very much make up that man’s identity. And his purpose. And everything he was fighting for. And asking the question, what’s left after that?— we’re gonna see. We’re gonna answer that question. We’re gonna show that."

Continuing discussion on The Governor and who he is at his core, Gimple says they looked at the tie-in novels for insight into his character, not just the comic book. "...I love those first two novels, and absolutely they were inspiring. And it’s interesting because the Governor in the novels is a little different that the Governor in the comics. And of course the show is a little different than them both. I guess I just will say I very much dug those novels. We were talking a lot about those novels. I think they were inspiring to this story and there are some moments some people might sort of recognize, but it’s also pretty different."

What do you think will happen now that The Governor is back? Is he after the prison or is he after revenge or both? Discuss below in the comment section.

Hopefully it means it will be compelling again. It's been really boring this season.

season blows so far. it should end soon. they should go with an ending like the Mist. they get cornered in a room with zombies trying to break in. they all look at Rick giving him the "ok, were ready to die" face. Rick only has enough bullets for everyone but himself. kills the group as zombies come pouring in... end credits

Well since the Governor was a terrible joke of a villian.

And season 4 has actually been awesome so far.

Im guessing to answer the question of "The Governor is Back! What Happens Next?"...My answer would be "The show possibly gets lame like season 3 again." :(

The show is good again.

Seasons 2 and 3 may have been pretty weak compared to how amazing season 1 was....but so far season 4 has made the show great again.

The Governor needs to die. I hope this isn't dragged out because of fanboy love. The character needs to die like he did in the comics. Writers fall in love with their binkies and end up beating a dead horse. The Governor is their binky and I hope the overuse doesn't harm the quality of the show. Time to move on to cannibals.

The Governor is an over the top, unrealistic villain who belongs in a superhero show like Smallville. The show unfortunately brought Merle back into that mess and really clipped the balls of what could've been a great return and made it goofy also.
The Zombies have been reduced to nothing and I don't think they can just be built back up into the presence they had. And is this a Horror show or sci-fi adventure show?

The show goes back and forth between a comic booky/Sci Fi show and realistic never settling on a tone.
There's also not much innovation or thought in presenting what that World would be like. There would be many fires in cities and wooded areas. Some caused by squatters trying to stay warm or by other types of accidents with fire and others set by individuals to kill hordes of Zombies.
The group may not come across all the fires in progress but they would see the smoke and haze and come across scorched areas.

And where are the thousands of crazy teen boys and other militia types riding in groups having fun shooting at the Walkers? In this World, if we had such an event, in every city some young guys would loot, rob, steal and get armed, drunk and stoned and go hunting. No way they would pass up the opportunity to run around in cities with no cops gunning down Walkers.

Where is the weed? You can't tell me these guys wouldn't find some plants and plant seeds. They've had a gazillion opportunities.

I think Walking Dead could be much better if they eradicated the over the top crap and focused on mixing realism with horror.

I'm not happy with the return of the Governor and unfortunately I'm sure he'll be around at least until midseason.
This show is called Walking Dead but in season 3 it became Walking Governor. It became an over the top adventure show with Zombies as a back drop.

Mister, love that ending! I don't care if they rip off the great ending of 'The Mist'. I'd buy that for a dollar, and the series has run it's course.

Fcckin jackoff, Kirkman won't reveal the cause/solution to the outbreak? Fcck him and all ambiguous writers. "Create your own answers"? I'm lazy you fcckin more lazy 'creatives', tell me what to believe. Ugh.

The Governor is one of the most poorly written villains in recent memory. Although that shouldn't be surprising because the writers screwed up all the other characters on this show too. That said, it's one of the better shows on TV right now and this season is definitely making up for a God-awful Season 3 finale.

The writing has gotten steadily better this season so I just hope the new showrunner can properly depict a genuinely scary, threatening Governor for once. Not just some poorly-defined caricature of a person who's perfectly sane one moment, goes completely insane and campy the next, and for no real reason. I expect a better storyline this season

I thought Walking Dead was gonna be my fave show ever but its falling down my list a bit. This season has been good, but not great. The way they ended last season with the war being not much of a war but more a 1man mass murder, along with this season, has been a bit of a damper to me. Still love it, just not quite as much lately.
