The terrifying Whisperers were finally introduced in the mid-season finale of The Walking Dead, but now we have a first look at their ruthless leader Alpha, who'll be played by Academy Award-nominated British actress Samantha Morton

The key-art for the upcoming mid-season premiere reveals the character sporting her grotesque walker skin mask, which her people have taken to wearing in order to fool their victims into thinking they're zombies. We saw how effective that was towards the end of the last episode when Jesus was killed by a Whisperer he mistook for one of the undead.

Check out the banner below, along with a new still from EW and a lengthy synopsis.

"The second half of The Walking Dead Season 9 finds our groups of survivors, both old and new, continuing to deal with the impact of events that took place during the six years that have passed. Since the disappearance of Rick, many of these characters have become strangers to each other, and in some ways, strangers to themselves.

What they do know is that they are in undeniable danger. They will soon realize the world just beyond does not operate as they thought. The group’s rules and ways of survival no longer guarantee their safety. A whole new threat has crossed their paths, and they soon discover it’s unlike any threat they have encountered or endured before. The group will start to question what they think they see.

What may appear to be normal in this post-apocalyptic world could actually be more disturbing and terrifying than when the apocalypse first broke out. All that is certain is the stakes are high and numerous."

@RocknRolla - Opie or Beta will lead their army if they follow the books. Hes straight muscle while Alpha was much more tactical. Ive always wished we would see more camps in the books. Im not a fan of the chapter after the whispers tbh.

How is this nonsense still on the air. It should've been cancelled along time ago, along with American horror garbage story

"Man, I'm so mad something exists that I don't like... cuz if I don't like it, no one else gets to have it cuz I run the world and I wear big boy pants with super hero chonies underneath".

If you drink Pepsi over Coke, do you go around complaining about Coke products existing?? "Wtf is Coke doing in this world still when I only like Pepsi?! I am the [frick]ing OVERLORD!"

... bunch of children, I swear.

I was so rejuvenated with this show when the evolving Walkers plot was introduced. But no, they're just humans playing dress-up. What a dampener to such an intriguing premise.

@Kevwebsz - me too. Every kept talking about Whisperers and I never paid attention to the fact that they were people dressed up as walkers, so when a walker counters and kills Jesus I was like "SHIT" then wemhent it was tevealed to be human i was let down.
