The Walking Dead Graphic Novel Series Officially Green Lit at AMC

The TV pilot of a proposed series is based on a image comic book by Robert Kirkman. Frank Darabont (The Mist) has wrote the zombie adaptation and will direct the TV pilot for AMC and is also one of the executive producers.

"The Walking Dead" revolves around a group of human survivors, led by a police officer, who all cross country in search of a safe home away from the hoards of flesh eating hungry zombies that have taken over the earth.

The zombie apocalypse is also executive produced with Gale Anne Hurd (Valhalla Motion Pictures) and David Alpert (Circle of Confusion) with Frank Darabont.

"Walking Dead" is one of two pilots AMC has ordered, the other one is "The Killing," which is a crime drama based on a Danish television show.

LEEE777 - I have read a couple of issues and its a great take on the zombie genre, comments below, brains.

F*** YEAH!!!!!!!!!!

Man thanks for the news LEEE!! I love The Walking Dead!! Like a soap opera with Zombies haha! I've always thought it would be great as a TV series. I love zombie related stuff. Recently: Zombieland was awesome, Left 4 Dead 2 and now this.

Kirkamn = Zombie Master!.. Having said that I need to catch up with Marvel Zombies! Only read 1 and 2 I think. (Way behind, I know!)

IMRAN @ Kudos ya welcome dude, an yeah i loved ZOMBIELAND too, awesome movie! I hope the pilot stays true to the comic book though and not numb it down.

Hey not seen left 4 dead, any good?

Catch up on ya MARVEL ZOMBIES ffs, hey ive just read the crossover one with ASH from Army of Darkness (Evil Dead). Great read!

i cant wait for this! walking dead is my favorite comic series, period! its the one comic that you can ALWAYS count on to deliver the goods. i'm a little worried about it being on AMC, but then again, AMC shows some pretty gory stuff, and not saying "[frick]" isn't that big a deal. i just hope its in black and white :)

as long as the changes aren't TOO drastic it will be fine. like Trueblood's changes from the novels, thats a perfect amount of change.

@ dellamorte

you're right though, it would have a worked a little better on HBO. and i'm kind of shocked they turned it down.

DELL @ [frick] [frick] [frick]! : D

Nah, lets hope for the best here dude lol!

Yeah problem with HBO, great stuff but they tend to cancel projects all the time b4 their ever made,, damn i think we all wanted that PREACHER TV series!!!

Hey, i still say get TOM JANE and start up a PUNISHER TV show at HBO, now that would be something, coz the the movie franchise is near enough dead.

CORN @ Talking Black & White, maybe they'll show some of the more gory scenes like that?? Like KILL BILL?

@ LEEE

i think it would be awesome to have a Punisher series that was made by Marvel Films, so its in continuity with the movies, then he could make cameos and all that fun stuff!

YYYYYAAAAAASSSSS!!!!!!!!

My favourite comic out!!!

I so cannot wait for this! I also dont have problems with the network wanting to take some seriour deviation from the book as the turnover in characters can be fairly rapid in some points and I dont mind them keeping in some of them to make the 'drama' last longer!

Sounds good to me, I love me some zombie fiction as much as the next guy (if not more) though I was only interested in The Walking Dead when Tony Moore was the artist.

orod510 - 1/21/2010, 11:28 AM
Awesome series with very interesting twists. The comic focuses more on how people are surviving and dealing with the circumstances rather than just gore or the zombies.

Also anyone could die at any moment, a lot of the main characters have already died. Only a handful of characters from the first 20 issues are still around.

Everyone should pick up the first tradepaperback then youll be hooked.

Second what Orod said

Though thinking about it, some real nasty stuff happens, and not just the zombie eating kind. Talking little kids with no heads, people get raped and tortured. I wonder what the screening time and rating will be

This has the potential to be great, if the really stick to the source material. This is one of my favorite books. Kirkman is truly talented.

YEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!

I was just looking for info on this last night. Continuing stories are the way to go with the zombie genre. A single or even small set(2-3) of movies doesn't do it justice.

@ muthatucker
I agree. That or maybe have the saturation level waaaaay down so there is some color, but its almost b&w

*small spoiler(kinda)*
the great thing about Walking Dead is how the main danger slowly changes from the zombies to the deranged living.LOVE IT!
