THE WALKING DEAD: Lauren Cohan May Have Just Dropped A Huge SPOILER About Maggie's Season 9 Departure

We know that season nine will feature the departures of Andrew Lincoln and Lauren Cohan but the latter may have now dropped a pretty huge bombshell about what's in store for Maggie when she leaves...

The Walking Dead will never be the same again after season nine because not only is Andrew Lincoln leaving the series but so too is Lauren Cohan. Both will appear for at least eight episodes and in a new interview the latter has explained that her exit has come as a result of her feeling too "comfortable" in the role. "Eight years is a really long time to be in those emotional depths," the actress explained.

"[It’s] really fun for me because I never thought about drama as much when I started this career and I always assumed I’d do like light fare," she added making it clear she's ready for new challenges.

Here's where that spoiler comes in, though. Cohan went on to say that she considers the opportunity to return to The Walking Dead "a gift," adding: "There’s a chance for me to still explore the Maggie character and it’s going to be fun to see if that can be done." This obviously points to the character surviving, something which leaves us with a lot of big questions about how her exit will be handled.

Will Maggie and Rick walk off into the sunset rather than dying at the hands (well, teeth) of walkers? In the case of the former, that certainly seems like one possibility. Share your thoughts down below.

I can't wait for this show to be off the air. I used to be it's biggest fan, but everything after season 6 has been hot garbage. Now the only things we hear about this show are when cast members depart.

Kill it with fire, AMC!

@knocturnalzen10 - Haha that's a fair comparison. Nothing from that show beats the Bernthal 'head rubs' though.

It's hilarious because in the very first scene in S01 of The Punisher, Bernthal does the head rub.

There's no way that was an accident haha.

@incredibleTalk - Lauren Cohan? I guess I didn't realize she was in that. She seems to be the co-lead, damn haha. I was planning on seeing it anyway because I'm a big Peter Berg fan and I shamelessly love Marky Mark as well. I remember him like this though...

Glad to hear the movie is good, Berg has made some good shit, but also some very 'meh' stuff as well.

@incredibleTalk - really? I mean I had no interest in seeing it to begin with, but it seems like the majority of word I've heard about it has been not very kind at all. That it's very bland and cookie cutter.

Yup this is the same thing they said with the chick from Strar Trek and look what happens to her character. I see a pike in her and rocks future.

@CurlyBill - If Maggie does get the Spike death, I'm hoping Rosita and Ezekiel don't bite the dust as well like they do in the comics. Rosita is a more prominent character and there's still so much more that can be done with Ezekiel.

This isn't exactly a bombshell ..

She has said numerous times that she would be open to returning. It's been well documented that she won't be killed off.

The only one we don't know for sure about is Rick. But since there is a time jump, Rick can always come back from time to time to fill in flashback scenes etc

I'm really hoping Rick doesn't get killed off. He deserves to be back when the show eventually ends. So I'm hoping he goes off with the Helicopter people or something. Killing him would be stupid

I can Maggie being back for a few episodes per season moving forward. TWD has put all their eggs in the Daryl basket .. I hope it pays off and I hope this "return to season 1 form" we keep hearing about is true.

@bigdannymac - I like the idea that Rick loses his hand/arm, gets flown on the helicopter to the Commonwealth to be patched up, and we see him in small cameos later on throughout the series.

Either that or the helicopter takes them to a bunch of scientists who are close to curing the Walker virus in England and need Rick to come with them because he wasn't breathing in the virus for over three weeks whilst in a coma at the beginning of the series. Then Rick leaves and we get a Walking Dead spinoff with Rick in England so Andrew Lincoln is close enough to film near his family.

@Peel - I'd watch that .. or a Pre TWD show with Rick and Shayne

In four or five years time, I want to see all the original actors return to voice an animated comic-book accurate adaption of The Walking Dead on Netflix so that characters like Andrea, Tyreese, Carl, Rick and Maggie are done more properly and like the comics.

I'm going to be honest and say that I never cared for Maggie. Ever since she came onto the show, all Glenn and Maggie's characters have been are 'Oh shit, I'm separated from Glenn/Maggie, I have to go and find them.' At least with Glenn, he had his subplots with Nicholas and Enid to keep him going, and was a genuinely funny and interesting character before he met Maggie.

But both Rick and Maggie leaving this season is going to be a damaging blow to The Walking Dead, more than even Carl's death. I'm not sure they'll be able to recover from it.

Peel - 8/17/2018, 10:56 AM
If Scott Gimple and AMC had any sense, they wouldn't kill off characters like Beth Greene, Bob Stookey, Abraham Ford and Carl Grimes when their actors are so passionate about their characters and want to play them forever, when other actors like Lauren Cohan and Danai Gurira are getting more publicity and work in Hollywood and are more and more unlikely with time to keep staying on The Walking Dead.

Imagine this; its Season Nine of The Walking Dead. Beth, Abraham and Carl aren't dead and Morgan never left to go to Fear. Beth takes Maggie's comic role, Abraham's alive to be a funny badass and keep the show going, and Carl's still alive to keep his Whisperers comic role and Morgan becomes the new lead of The Walking Dead once Andrew Lincoln leaves instead of Norman Reedus. That would've been a 1000%x far better than the current shitshow we're about to have.

isn't the Walking Dead about Rick's journey??? If he leaves the show should end.. it's kinda like if Bryan Cranston had left Breaking Bad.. This show starts with Rick waking up in a coma right? has to end with him as well..

madhombre - 8/17/2018, 2:38 PM
@martinilounge - It should’ve ended with Rick, but since it’s still AMC’s highest rated show they’ll keep it going until the ratings completely collapse.
It’s a damn shame too, since the show started out so strong.
