GAME OF THRONES' Paul Kaye Joins DOCTOR WHO Season 9

GAME OF THRONES' Paul Kaye Joins DOCTOR WHO Season 9

Good news for Whovians, but maybe bad news for those hoping for the return of Thoros of Myr and the rest of the Brotherhood Without Banners in HBO's Game Of Thrones.

Paul Kaye (Pusher, Dracula Untold) certainly made an impression as Red Priest Thoros of Myr in the third season of Game Of Thrones, but even though he and the rest of the Brotherhood are still (presumably) alive and kicking in Westeros, we didn't see or hear from them in season 4, and there's been no word of Kaye or any of the other actors shooting scenes for season 5. Now, according to the Independent, the British actor will be joining Peter Capaldi’s Time Lord and Jenna Coleman’s companion Clara in Doctor Who as a character named Prentis. He's expected to appear at the start of series nine in first episode “The Magician’s Apprentice”. For the night is dark, and full of Tardises.

Hmmmmm......

Lots of Game of Thrones actors have been in Doctor Who, and most of them play characters who get killed off, all have only appeared in one episode (or two if its a two-parter).

Salladhor Saan (Lucian Msamati) was in "The Vampires of Venice", dies.
Jojen Reed (Thomas Brodie Sangster) was in "Human Nature" and "Family of Blood", lives.
Viserys Targaryen (Harry Lloyd) was also in "Human Nature" and "Family of Blood", dies.
Ser Davos Seaworth (Liam Cunningham) was in "Cold War", lives.
Edmure Tully (Tobias Menzies) was in "Cold War" as well, dies.
Ser Dontos (Tony Way) was in "Deep Breath", dies.
Jory Cassel (Jamie Sives) was in "Tooth and Claw", dies?
Ser Rodrick Cassel (Ron Donachie) was ALSO in "Tooth and Claw", and dies.
Pyat Pree (Ian Hanmore) was also in "Tooth and Claw", and dies.
Ser Jorah Mormont (Iain Glen) was in "Time of Angels" and "Flesh and Stone", dies.
Walder Frey (David Bradley) was in "Dinosaurs on a Spaceship", dies.

There's probably more. I doubt it'll interfere with anything.

*spoiler*
without stoneheart, Thoros and Beric's archs have been wasted on the show got.
Hours wasted on story that will just vanish and have no resolution unless they make another radical change from the books.

Big mistake by the show runners and a real disservice to fans.

Thought it was going to say Doctor Strange.

Haven't seen Who since the Christmas special which is surprising because I'm a huge and avid fan.

It's hilarious how many people think they're above Doctor Who here.

Because a thousand-year-old alien who travels through time and space in a police box is so much more juvenile than a guy who turns into a green giant with the world's most flexible pants or a guy who dresses up like a bat at night because his parents died.

I don't dislike DR WHO because the concept is juvenile, I dislike it because the execution is:)

Ah no I've seen a few good eps here and there, just not my cuppa.

Eh, @Carl, relax.
So far they've done a FANTASTIC job every which way, especially considering every small departure and different translation which worked better in the book. They've given us one of the best shows ever made, and I'm confident they'll do Feast For Crows and Dance with Dragons justice. It's not like the writers didn't read the books - given how things take place out of order, with a flashback in a Storm of Swords appearing IN chronological order in the first season (which they didn't HAVE to do, but wanted to nail it) we'll be ok.

If *I* were to worry at all, it would be about Aeron Greyjoy.

The execution isn't always juvenile. The show is inconsistent. When it delivers it really delivers.

If it's not your thing, OK, but watch Midnight, Listen or Blink and tell me it's a bad show.

@Jaffi
Or Human Nature, that's one of the greats.

I don't think Doctor Who needs defending in either case. Clearly millions of fans love it, but that doesn't necessarily mean everyone has to.

Human Nature is the shit.

Anyway yeah, it's 3am and I'm getting worked up over nonsense.

its hard to relax after getting and reading a word of ice and fire.
I think it might be akin to cutting Tom bombadill from LOTR to be honest.
without going into predictions or spoiler territory.

To quote Pierce during the gas leak year, one way to improve Dr. Who: "what about a blonde with long legs and a tennis racket?"
