DOCTOR WHO: THE POWER OF THE DOCTOR First Look Brings Back Familiar Faces And Teases A Regeneration

A first look at this October's Doctor Who: The Power of the Doctor has been revealed, and with The Master again taking aim at Jodie Whittaker's Doctor, another regeneration is clearly on the horizon now...

BBC has announced (via SFFGazette.com) that the upcoming special featuring Jodie Whittaker's final appearance as the iconic sci-fi character will be titled Doctor Who: The Power of the Doctor. The Thirteenth Doctor is about to regenerate into Ncutu Gatwa, so this episode may also include his first appearance as the Fourteenth iteration of the time-traveller.

It's been confirmed that Mandip Gill and John Bishop will reprise their respective roles as companions Yasmin Khan and Dan Lewis, while the poster for The Power of the Doctor definitely appears to show regeneration energy emanating from the Doctor.

As for the first look images, they're accompanied by the tease that "Old friends and enemies reunite."

Upon closer inspection, we see Sacha Dhawan's long-awaited return as The Master (who was last seen in the season 12 finale) and an awesome new look for the Cybermen. They're clearly part of the forces that The Master is bringing together to destroy her foe, and the battle to come is shaping up to be epic enough to warrant that inevitable regeneration.

Perhaps most exciting for fans, though, is the fact that the Doctor is also shown alongside two classic companions, Tegan Jovanka (Janet Fielding) and Ace (Sophie Aldred).

We can't wait to find out where this is heading, and how it sets the stage for the returns of David Tennant and Catherine Tate. Whether The Master will have a part to play remains to be seen, though we do know the Doctor's next big bad will be played by Neil Patrick Harris (it's thought he's a new take on classic foe The Toymaker).

Doctor Who: The Power of the Doctor is set to air on the BBC next month, so keep checking SFFGazette.com for updates.

Really disliked this run. It’s less Jodi Whitticker fault. They gave her little to work with and pretty awful storylines and arcs.

I’m excited to see Tennant back in the role as he is easily my favorite Doctor.

Also very excited for the new actor to take the role and the return of RTD

I think just about everyone agrees that the Jodie Whitaker run of episodes were not the best, no fault of hers of course, although they did have some decent episodes here and there. Strange enough, at least to me, the last episode arc with Jodie was some of the best of her era, but too little too late I guess. Hope Jodie and the gang goes out with a good run, and of course can't wait for the return of Tennant and Tate.

The main Cyberman's head-gear looks suspiciously like earlier costume versions of the Time Lords.

How is this show still going? Is it just because the British public is being forced to fund it? I am a life-long Doctor Who fan, I used to watch the PBS viewings at like 2 am back in the day but I don't know anyone in the fandom that watches anymore. I haven't checked in awhile but the viewer count at BBC America was extremely low compared to what it was before Moffat's last seasons and against other shows, and iirc it was very low in England too but I'm not sure about that
