ARROW Season 7's "Supermax" Arc Compared To Putting Batman In Prison Alongside The Joker

When Arrow returns to The CW this fall, Oliver Queen will be behind bars and in a new interview, Stephen Amell and director James Bamford drop some big hints about what's to come for the imprisoned hero.

It sounds like Oliver Queen will cross paths with quite a few familiar faces when he winds up in the Slabside Supermax Prison in Arrow season seven. As you may recall, Warner Bros. was once developing a Supermax movie starring Green Arrow which would have seen him come face to face with the likes of The Joker and Lex Luthor but that premise is not being used for the small screen version of the hero.

"Oliver is in prison with a bunch of people that he put in prison," Stephen Amell reveals. "We were fortunate enough to get some people back on the show that you haven’t seen in quite a while."

"We’re investigating completely different dynamics within the mythology of the show and that is within Supermax," adds director James Bamford. "There’s a whole world, as you know, within a prison community and we’ll see how long he lasts inside there and what and who he encounters while he’s in there. It’s left open to multiple possibilities, as far as characters that could arise."

"What I’ve said to the other folks is, ‘What if Batman got put in prison and, for instance, the Joker was right next door?’ The possibilities are endless,” he continued. “I can’t say exactly who or what’s in there, but it’s a pretty dark, horrible, evil place. We want the audience to not only feel what it’s like to be confined in such a destitute place. I want [you] to feel what he feels, so you’ll get the grit."

I have a feeling Oliver is going to get out of prison because of his deal with Watson, she said she wanted two things, one was him admitting he was the Green Arrow, he did that, we never found out what the other part of the deal was. I have a feeling something is going down at the prison and Oliver needs to stop it

So basically giving us the movie WB should've given us years ago. Good for them.

Good jumping on point?

The premise is really interesting, i just hate the fact that a villain, a normal human, created so many problems for him where guys like Ra's failed...f*ck this.

Fun fact: Director James Bamford was stuntman in X-Men 2 and he played Gambit in one scene but his short part was deleted from the final cut

"What I’ve said to the other folks is, ‘What if Batman got put in prison and, for instance, the Joker was right next door?’"

Ugh. The constant desire to compare Green Arrow with Batman is tiresome. It has been an anchor tied to his foot since the start of this show. Oliver Queen never had the chance to develop a unique personality - the shadow of the bat is always looming large over him.

So basically the plot of the Green Arrow movie that was rumored but never came to fruition? That’s pretty cool I guess

"It's like Batman is in jail next to Joker. Except its Green Arrow and Brick. And they try to have sex with each other."
Did I say too much?

I don't know how much of Green Arrow: Supermax's story was complete, but how could they not base this season off it? It's the same exact premise. I'm sure it will be good (it looks good from the trailer), but it sounds like the biggest missed opportunity ever if they don't adapt it.
