It looks like this season is really going to delve deep into Jennifer Pierce's (China Anne McClain) journey from innocent teenager to fiery superhero, and the promo for next week does give us a pretty decent idea of what to expect when she ultimately makes her final transformation.

Meanwhile, Jefferson (Cress Williams) will have plenty on his plate as in addition to helping his daughter, he'll also have to deal with his replacement at the high school, who's seemingly hellbent on undoing all the good he's done. Plus, Anissa (Nafessa Williams) will hit one of the most powerful crime syndicates in Freeland, which is probably going to lead to trouble.

Meanwhile, Anissa (Nafessa Williams) continues to play Robin Hood by stealing from one of the most powerful crime syndicates in Freeland. China Anne McClain, Christine Adams, Marvin Jones III, Damon Gupton, Jordan Calloway and James Remar also star. Rose Troche directed the episode written by Jan Nash (#203). Original airdate 10/23/2018.

Jefferson Pierce (Cress Williams) is a man wrestling with a secret. As the father of two daughters and principal of a charter high school that also serves as a safe haven for young people in a New Orleans neighborhood overrun by gang violence, he is a hero to his community. Nine years ago, Pierce was a hero of a different sort. Gifted with the superhuman power to harness and control electricity, he used those powers to keep his hometown streets safe as the masked vigilante Black Lightning. However, after too many nights with his life on the line, and seeing the effects of the damage and loss that his alter ego was inflicting on his family, he left his Super Hero days behind and settled into being a principal and a dad. Choosing to help his city without using his superpowers, he watched his daughters Anissa (Nafessa Williams) and Jennifer (China Anne McClain) grow into strong young women, even though his marriage to their mother, Lynn (Christine Adams), suffered. Almost a decade later, Pierce’s crime-fighting days are long behind him…or so he thought. But with crime and corruption spreading like wildfire, and those he cares about in the crosshairs of the menacing local gang The One Hundred, Black Lightning returns — to save not only his family, but also the soul of his community.

Black Lightning features:
Cress Williams as Jefferson Pierce/Black Lightning
China Anne McClain as Jennifer Pierce
Nafessa Williams as Anissa Pierce/Thunder
Christine Adams as Lynn Pierce
Marvin "Krondon" Jones III as Tobias Whale
Damon Gupton as Inspector William Henderson

It was a good episode that sets up other things to come later. Breaking it down in two ways it shows how Tobias and the Pierce family are handling the developments to come with the Green Light Babies, with the former being ready to use them to climb back through the ladder while the Pierce are trying to help them.

I question if that Green Light Baby with the white flame ray is really dead. Issa was able to come back to life and it'd be cool to see that metahuman use his powers in action.

Anissa is really going to mess up soon. She went Robin Hood once and now thinks she is some kind of celebrity, even going to parties and being with popular people.

Tobias is getting ready to use whatever was in that briefcase but not until he has tied up his loose ends, seems he wants to get back to being a politician like before and all the evidence from where he killed Jefferson's father is in his hands now.

Pretty sure it isn't the last time we see of Wendy and her aerokinesis. (She's kinda like an airbender)

Issa is a "Truth Serum Medusa", one look and the bitter ugly truth will come out. His powers could be useful to any party.

I dunno why I laughed when it dawned on Jefferson that the new principal was going to be caucasian. But the ending was sweet with his students reminding him of his own motto. I wonder what he will teach now as a Garfield teacher.

Gambi better have a suit ready for Jennifer. And I don't think Khalil meant anything he said to her, Tobias is still his master and after his "failure" in not saving Syonide from Fowdy (who is still missing and wasn't even in the episode) if he tries to double cross him he'll lose those legs.
