New Description Of The San Diego Comic-Con KRYPTON Trailer Surfaces Online

Syfy and Warner Brothers Television premiered a new trailer for their Superman prequel series, Krypton, last night at San Diego Comic-Con, and a description of the footage has now popped up online.

David Goyer's Krypton series has raised more questions than it's answered at this particular point in time, most of which surround the continuity of the series and whether it will be part of the framework of the DCEU that Man Of Steel set up, or if it will be its own thing.

Last night a trailer for the show premiered at the San Diego Comic-Con preview night, and Collider was there to relay back a description:

The trailer begins with majestic and interplanetary imagery and a narration from Seg-El (Cameron Cuffe), grandfather of Kal-El, a.k.a. Superman.

“Kal-El, my future grandson. I know you will fight to save your world, just as I fought to save mine,” he says over clips which feature other cast members including Ann Ogbomo‘s Alura Zod, Georgina Campbell‘s Lyta Zod, and Ian McElhinney‘s Val-El, Seg’s grandfather, who reminds him not to forget the name of his family. There’s even a person with multiple golden faces seen in the reel, implying that we will see any number of interesting and strange creatures on the doomed planet Krypton. (Ann Ogbomo may be recognizable to DC fans as she recently played the Amazon Phillipus in Wonder Woman earlier this year.)

While there is some imagery suggesting ties to Man of Steel and the DC cinematic universe, including the design of the “S” which in the films implied hope, there’s also a nod to a previous take on the franchise, as some bars from John Williams‘ classic Superman theme can be heard near the end. Those notes and the trailer itself seemed to elicit a positive response and applause from the audience.

It would seem that the show will rely on some of the imagery from Man Of Steel, but also incorporate some elements of classic Superman lore. However, the first image from the show released a while back showed off some subtle changes to the Man of Steel version of the S glyph. So, questions about the show's continuity still remain.

The Krypton panel is slated for Saturday, after which the trailer could possibly be made available online.

I really hope this turns out to be very interesting. After that scene from Man of Steel where Russell Crowe even wanted to do a Krypton prequel movie, I've wanted to see it happen.

@KillerCroc357 - If Russell Crowe stars in it, then I'm interested.

Sounds interesting. I wonder if they will talk about Cara at all. She seems to get the short end of the stick when it comes to the El family.

"you don't know what bad editing is" stfu yes I do. It's that. Makes people nauseous.

So, is it ever explained in the comics why the advanced Kryptonians chose to live powerless on their red sun planet, instead of living like gods on yellow sun planets?

Was there ever a take on that story that had the Kryptonians trapped/prisoned on Krypton after some kind of war by someone who knew how powerful they would be close to a yellow sun? And had that spin on why Jor El had to build the ship in secret and thats why Kal El is hunted?

This has potential man, i read The Last Days of Krypton and that book (not comic) was f*cking dope.
I know nothing about Syfy tho.

So Gotham was not enough! The premise has potential but I doubt that it will be funded well enough for what it could and should be. As a result having another Superman related show that is unrelated to anything else is another misstep.

It's on SyFy so you know it'll be top quality.

What will it take WB to develop a DC TV show on HBO? Especially since they [frick]ing own that station?

According to Goyer, it takes place before Man of Steel in the DCEU continuity, but the rest of the producers seems noncommittal of it being in the DCEU. Hopefully it is. I'd like to see that universe start making some small screen connections.

Making it actually connect to the DCEU may be the only way to get me to actually care about this show.
