The critical response to Peacemaker has been extremely positive thus far, and fans will be given the opportunity to share their thoughts on the series when it debuts on HBO Max this Thursday.
The streaming service will no doubt want to see the sort of response the show generates in terms of viewership numbers before committing to a second season. However, writer and director James Gunn has confirmed his and the cast's interest in returning to continue telling Christopher Smith's story.
"We have 87 seasons mapped out," the filmmaker joked during a recent interview with Screen Rant. "Yeah, we're gonna be doing this until John [Cena] and I are 150 years old. But yeah, no we all want to continue. We really want to continue. It was the greatest group of people."
"Obviously, I was already friends with John and Jenn [Holland], obviously, and Steve Agee," Gunn continued. "But, Danielle [Brooks] and Chuk [Iwuji] — [Chuk] is one of my best friends. Chuk is one of the primary characters now in Guardians 3, and he is murdering it on this movie. So, it was just, really, a great group of people and I can't wait to work with them again."
As we noted in our review of Peacemaker, seven of eight episodes of the show were made available to critics in advance, so there's a strong chance the finale features some big teases about where this story could go next. Something tells us you'll be keen to continue following the former Task Force X member's story beyond this first season, though, so fingers crossed more is eventually coming.
Check back here later this week for a closer look at the biggest reveals from the first three episodes!
