STARGIRL Season 2 Reveals Plans For Arrowverse Crossover With John Wesley Shipp Returning As The Flash

With DC Universe no more, Stargirl season two is moving to The CW, and the first major Arrowverse crossover has been set, with John Wesley Shipp set to play the Earth-2 version of Jay Garrick (again).

Entertainment Weekly reveals that Stargirl's upcoming second season will see John Wesley Shipp reprise his role as Jay Garrick, a.k.a. the Flash. The actor is best known for playing the Fastest Man Alive in The CW's The Flash (and the '90s show), and this marks Stargirl's first major Arrowverse CWVerse crossover.

Shipp will reprise his role in episode nine, "a pivotal flashback episode" which establishes "the Golden Age Flash as a member of Earth-2's Justice Society of America."

A lot changed thanks to the events of Crisis on Infinite Earths, but confirmation that this is an official crossover comes from The CW. A description shared with the site states that the episode will "officially bring Stargirl [Brec Bassinger] into CW's post-Crisis CWverse alongside The Flash, Superman & Lois, Batwoman, Black Lightning, Supergirl, and DC's Legends of Tomorrow."

This is definitely a fitting piece of casting news, and while The CW could have used a different actor as Jay Garrick, it just makes sense to have him appear in Stargirl given the Justice Society of America's importance to the show. It should be interesting to see if we get any nods to Earth-Prime, the home of the characters mentioned above (Stargirl, meanwhile, lives on the new Earth-2).

Are you excited to see Shipp once again race into action as the Scarlet Speedster?

I'm all for John Wesley Shipp reprising his role as Jay Garrick in Stargirl, but I really hope that there is no jumping between universes this time and he is simply just this earth's version of the character. Considering that Flash portrait we briefly saw in JSA headquarter in season one, he might even have a different costume.

That's cool. I like the idea of Carter, shipp and Keaton all reprising their iconic DC roles at the same time

I think he’d be a better Wildcat.

@WruceBayne - Yvette Monreal, who plays the younger Wildcat in the show, once said that she would like Sylvester Stallone to cameo as the original Wildcat. Gotta say, that would be pretty epic cameo.

I wonder if this is treated as the universe being rewritten in-story. Is this the same Jay we saw on the Flash or is it a new one? Is it a Jay with a new history that still remembers meeting Barry? I don’t really get why they made such a big deal at the end of Crisis of there being no more multiverse as they showed us the new multiverse lol especially if we’re gonna be getting crossovers this quickly

Such cool news and so much to speculate about the meanings of this. Could Shipp be playing a new take of Jay Garrick for this new Earth-2 where Stargirl takes place? It seems likely since one of the purposes is to establish him as a member of the JSA and the Jay we got to know came from Earth-3 instead.

Maybe he could end up re-gaining his pre-Crisis memories too, something Martian Manhunter was doing for a while post Crisis.

Calling this a miniature character crossover is an accurate description.

I wonder what the flashback will be like. I hope Jay interacts with the new and young JSA!

Stargirl has been pretty great so far. Glad the Justice Society is getting more exposure.

I hope they give him the classic GA Flash suit. I like his suit in The Flash, but going nostalgic and classic is the way to go for this show.

When you think about it, Arrow didn’t start the Arrowverse, John Wesley Shipp Flash did.

Hope they give him a new costume. The costume he has been wearing is fine but Star Girl has a specific look and his flash costume would clash with the style of the rest of the jsa

Finally got some time to watch Stargirl S1. Really enjoyed the show and hope S2 is just as good. JWS as Jay Garrick should do nothing but help.

I'm lost on what Earth is what. Didn't we already see Earth-2 in The Flash too?
