It's been revealed today that Supergirl has cast Defiance alum Jesse Rath in season three as Brainiac 5. It's set to be a recurring role in the DC Comics adaptation and points to the Legion of Super-Heroes showing up in National City somewhere down the line. For now, though, it will just be this character who travels back from the 31st Century to help the Girl of Steel deal with the villainous Reign.

Half computer, half organic life and boasting a 12-level intellect, Brainiac 5 has actually been Supergirl's love interest in the comic books and co-showrunner Andrew Kreisberg has previously teased a new character's arrival who Kara could find romance with. The question is, will he have green skin here?

That remains to be seen but he'll first appear in season three's tenth episode, "Legion of Super-Heroes." Brainiac 5 was played by James Marsters in Smallville and a much different version is going to appear in Krypton. Rath's other credits include Being Human and Assassin's Creed: Lineage. He's also a huge comic book fan! What do you guys think of Supergirl's latest addition? Sound off down below.

Wow okay I really got to catch up now. The Legion is coming indeed.

And also we get Kara's second known love interest in the show.

The actor looks the part too.

This really is fun news. I really liked the Legion as a kid. The producers/writers must be having a lot of fun with this.

Really excited about this. First Mon-El, now Saturn Girl and Brainiac 5. Can a Legion spin off series be that far off?

I shipped them, I liked their dynamic. Stands to reason this show will make me not like it anymore.
