Neil Gaiman confirmed that the events of issue #6 of The Sandman would be adapted for the upcoming Netflix series last year, and we now have our first look at episode five, "24 Hours," via a series of official promo stills.

The images introduce some of the unfortunate patrons who happen to be present when John Dee (David Thewlis) enters an all-night diner with Morpheus' (Tom Sturridge) ruby in his possession.

We're not going to describe what happens in any detail, but suffice to say, things quickly take a turn for the depraved.

Check out the new stills at the link below.

The issue in question was deemed highly controversial when it was first published, and is still seen as one of the most disturbing comics ever written. Having seen the episode, we can say that the depictions of the horrific events are toned down somewhat, but viewers should still prepare themselves for a distressing watch!

"There is another world that waits for all of us when we close our eyes and sleep — a place called the Dreaming, where The Sandman, Master of Dreams (Tom Sturridge), gives shape to all of our deepest fears and fantasies. But when Dream is unexpectedly captured and held prisoner for a century, his absence sets off a series of events that will change both the dreaming and waking worlds forever. To restore order, Dream must journey across different worlds and timelines to mend the mistakes he’s made during his vast existence, revisiting old friends and foes, and meeting new entities — both cosmic and human — along the way."

The Sandman also stars Jenna Coleman as Johanna Constantine, Mason Alexander Park as Desire, Charles Dance as black magician Roderick Burgess, and Sanjeeve Bhaskar as Cain. Joely Richardson will play Ethel Cripps, while David Thewlis will take on the role of her son John Dee, aka the deranged Dr. Destiny.

The 10-episode first season of The Sandman will adapt the first two arcs of the Vertigo comics series, "Preludes and Nocturnes" and "The Doll's House."

So...what happens??

Never checked out the books but the series looks interesting. The new trailer looked fairly expensive by Netflix's standards for a TV series.

OT, but slightly DC/Warner Bros.-related:

Veteran actor David Warner (BTAS Ra’s Al Ghul) passed away.

While having a number of memorable roles under his belt, in love-action and voiceover, to me, THIS is probably one of his greatest performances ever:

Read this when I was about 14 and haven’t been able to forget it since. Incredibly gnarly, haunting stuff

After hearing Gaiman talk about adapting this very scene I'm pretty intrigued to see just how far it'll go.
