TITANS Has Already Been Renewed For A Second Season By DC Universe

We haven't even seen the first season of Titans yet (that debuts on the DC Universe streaming service on October 12th) but during the show's world premiere at the New York Comic-Con last night, it was confirmed that a second season has already been given the green light.

No other details were announced but common sense says we'll see Robin become Nightwing and maybe some new heroes.

"I think that shows the faith that DC Universe has in the show and in this amazing cast here and the property," executive producer Geoff Johns said. "DC is so supportive of it. We know Season 2 already. We know everything. We actually know all the characters for Season 2. We know the story of Season 2. Marv Wolfman will be very happy with Season 2." Wait, Marv Wolfman? That's a pretty big clue!

Bear in mind that the comic book writer was responsible for penning "The Judas Contract," a beloved Teen Titans storyline which pitted the young heroes against Deathstroke. With the character's movie seemingly no longer in the works, there's a good chance that we'll end up seeing them clash with Slade Wilson during season two, a smart move which is bound to be appreciated by fans of the comics.

@JohnnyTBP -

Good or bad, it's all they've got right now and they would never cancel original content for the service because that just leaves all the old stuff we've already seen.

Even if it sucks it was always bound to get a second season.

Doom Patrol, Swamp Thing, none of the live-action original content will be canceled after the first season. It would be completely ridiculous for them to do that to themselves at this point.

@Hi2Josh - early reviews from NYCC are great so far, sounds like Robin, Hawk & Dove are the standouts.

@Hi2Josh - I read that they go over the top with gruesome violence for no reason which takes away from an otherwise not terrible story.

When they first announced this series and put some meat on the bones, I was really optimistic for it. It seemed like an outlet for good DC live-action material that wasn't wedded to the particular CW formula (which isn't terrible, per se, but it's monotonous) and was potentially a refutation of the DCEU.

Since then, we've gotten to see the aesthetic of the show more (which ranges from decent to painful) and then we got that [frick]ing trailer...

Maybe the show itself is good. I hope so, but it also looks like there are some major deviations from what I would like to see in this kind of show, even if it is good.

But we're close enough now that it's not about anticipation or dread, the show will speak for itself.

Teen Titans have had 3 TV series in the last couple of decades. Every time people have hated how it looked from the first impression. Every. Time.

The first two shows ended up as solid watches, if falling short of the kind of sprawling franchise-building that a lot of people love. Maybe this one rises to the occasion, too.

@Spock0Clock - " Every time people have hated how it looked from the first impression. Every. Time."

I don't really recall people having an issue with the orginal teen titans animation, nor do i remember another teen titan series (unless you mean young justice, and i seem to remember people were impressed with the animation)

@ThePeterCipher - The original Teen Titans series came out during the height of the DCAU, and there were some (myself included) who were really pissy that they were doing an anime-inspired aesthetic rather than continuing the Timm house style. Right or wrong about that, the show was good.

The second series I was referring to is Teen Titans Go!, where the fans of the Teen Titans flipped the [frick] out, apparently.

Though, now that you mention Young Justice, I'm wasn't (and still am not) the biggest fan of that kind of style. There's basically no character to any of their faces most of the time (put a wig on Lex Luthor and he could be basically any other white dude character). But again, the series itself is pretty good and when they animated the action, it's fine.

Point being: I'm not going to say a show is shit just because I don't like the look of it. Especially with Teen Titans.

@Spock0Clock - Hmmm well you're the first person i have heard say this, and i can sort of see where you're coming from. But to be honest, i would not say the animation is THAT different from the dcau animation

Sure they have eyeballs, but it's on the same track and i can't see where an issue would arize.

With teen titans go animation, it's a different type of show, and i don't think anyone still likes the animation, but it's not that type of show for anyone to matter much.

Also with go, obviously it was different from the first shows animation, and it really lazy aswell.

Hrm have to disagree with young justice animation but to each their own.

@ThePeterCipher - You're forgetting about the comedic deformation moments. This kind of thing didn't happen in a Timm-verse series.

But it was a staple for the Teen Titans. Keep in mind that at that time we'd had a continually refining style from the Batman animated series that had been streamlined and "perfected". To suddenly abandon it in favor of very obvious anime trappings was practically an assault.

There were also some tonal differences that came along with that. The more understated wit of the Justice League was gone, in favor of mugging at the camera. It was a whole thing. But the internet was not like it is today, and I'm sure it'd be hard to find old examples to prove my point under two more recent layers of "why do people hate how the Teen Titans look".

Also a good reminder that fans were shit back then, too.

Yes, Teen Titans was different looking and it doesn't really hold up today all that well visually, but... who cares? Who really cares? It was enjoyable for what it was at the time.

@Spock0Clock - They crossed my mind to be sure. They are certainly anime based but i think it has a nice enough balance to be like tim. Plus it's for another audience.

The way i see it, the batman animated series before new adventures is canon, as is the original superman (and maybe superpets) and i'm pretty sure static shock actually mentions the teen titans so i sort of see it as canon. Maybe i am bias.

In short, it keeps the central look well enough.

To be fair back then there wasn't much places to talk teen titans original. But back then we had a lot of great and bad animation. On one hand we had samurai jack, justice league, and we also had ed edd and eddy. All of which more or less was good quality.
Spock0Clock
Spock0Clock - 10/4/2018, 2:32 AM
@ThePeterCipher - Actually, here's a comment from Sam Register, Executive Producer and VP at Cartoon Network at the time:

Justice League is awesome and Samurai Jack is awesome and we buy a lot of anime shows that are great, but those shows really are directed more towards the nine to fourteen age group, and the six and seven and eight-year-olds were not gelling with the Justice League and some of the more of the fanboy shows...The main mission was making a good superhero show for kids. Now if the fanboys happen to like the Teen Titans also, that's great, but that was not our mission.

— Sam Register, CBR News interview, May 8, 2004

And you can imagine how well that comment sat with teenage fanboys.

@Spock0Clock - I can't decide where i like modern cartoon network. On one hand they release adventure time an over garden wall, on the other they release garbage like the new powerpuff girls.

And i wish them or disney would greenlight this

Then again they finished adventure time and regular show with respectable endings...so i cannot disgust them.

It seems like the first episodes went over well with audiences, and that Starfire is the breakout character.
We shall see, I suppose.

Sweet, the trailers have gotten a lot better. Hope they connect it to Swamp Thing, they don't have to do it right away, establish each show first, then maybe in a season or two crossover
