In the latest episode of Titans, "Dude, Where's My Gar?" Beast Boy discovers the horrifying truth about his origin.
It turns out The Chief owned the lab that created the virus which killed Gar's parents and gave him his powers as part of his experiments. It was all part of the Doom Patrol leader's research into immortality, and this shocking revelation is followed by the Titan using the Red to get back to his fellow heroes.
However, Beast Boy inadvertently finds himself adrift in the DC Multiverse, leading to a long list of cameos...sort of.
Footage from The Flash TV series, Swamp-Thing, and even Shazam! sees the hero witness just how many other heroes exist across all these different realities. Gar even gets a glimpse of an alternate version of himself thanks to a scene from Teen Titans Go!, and it's a fun sequence we're guessing isn't all that dissimilar to this June's The Flash movie.
We do, however, get a proper Multiversal meeting when Gar crosses paths with Brec Bassinger's Courtney Whitmore/Stargirl. They have a quick chat and, while that character is now part of the Arrowverse, there was actually a time we expected her to also call the Titans-verse home.
Titans' fourth season will be its last as it was cancelled alongside fellow former DC Universe series Doom Patrol to make way for DC Studios' new slate of projects. Many fans have been disappointed by the decision, but neither series really managed to find a great deal of critical acclaim and often made creative decisions that disappointed fans (such as the handling of Red Hood's debut).
There are tonnes of clever references to the wider DCU in this episode of Titans, anyway, and that's something we definitely have to praise the series for.
