Brian K. Vaughan Calling The Shots On FX's Y: THE LAST MAN

Brian K. Vaughan Calling The Shots On FX's Y: THE LAST MAN

FX CEO John Landgraf provided an update on the status of the network's adaptation of Y: The Last Man. An announcement should be made soon but comic book creator Brian K. Vaughan, who has TV experience from Lost and Under the Dome, is calling the shots on the project.

Last year, an adaptation of Y: The Last Man was announced to be in development at FX. However, since that announcement, no new details have emerged.  At the Winter TCA's FX CEO John Landgraf stated that news should be coming soon but ultimately, Brian K. Vaughn is in the driver's seat and will control the direction of the show.  Said Landgraf, "We’ve had a number of producers and writers who really want to participate in that.  Ultimately, it’s Brian’s call who he wants to work with and I think that’ll come out soon."

Y: The Last Man is a comic book series by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra published by Vertigo beginning in 2002. The series is about the only man to survive the apparent simultaneous death of every male mammal (barring the same man's pet monkey) on Earth. The series was published in sixty issues by Vertigo and collected in a series of ten paperback volumes (and later a series of five hardcover "Deluxe" volumes). The series' covers were primarily by J. G. Jones and Massimo Carnevale. The series received five Eisner Awards.

D. J. Caruso, David Goyer and Louis Letterier were previously attached to the film adaptation.  Alicia Keys, Zachary Levi and Shia LaBeouf were rumored but never confirmed for various roles, with Levi rumored for the lead.

THe sexuality and secual tension makes this comic. I don't think it can be as good without the chance of real sex. Should have been on HBO

It sounds like it would be awesome, at first, to be the only man on Earth. Until you realize that ALL of those women are going to need a man, not only for sex, but to argue with and go "hormonal" on (don't get mad, ladies, you KNOW you do this). This means that you, automatically, lose every fight.

"Women! What can I say? Am I right, guys? Guys?"

*crickets*
*a tumbleweed blows by*

"Aw, shit. Am I the only guy left on the planet?"

From there, it turns into a strange parody of The Walking Dead.

The comic was excellent. I just hope it's done justice on the small screen.

The premise of Y: The Last Man was interesting, but overall felt like it was poorly executed. I have this issue with a lot of Vaughan's work. The first few issues/first volume start out amazing, then it slowly goes down hill. He might be the best concept guy in the business, but I don't feel like he's the best at executing his ideas.

I think that the main premise of this show should be the title character hunting down that one bitch who told him that she wouldn't date him "if he was the last man on Earth" to see whether or not she's willing to eat those words.

HBO is really anal when it comes to comic book adaptations. The walking dead was suppose to be on HBO but they turned it down, hell even Breaking was suppose to be on HBO but again they turned it away and they were forced to go with AMC, same with Preacher. AMC is the next best thing after HBO and Netflix, Into The Badlands was awesome and while I gave up on The Walking Dead the show is still highly popular.

I would not be shocked if Brian K. Vaughan approached HBO and was turned away. FX isn't bad but it's not the best either.

"the apparent simultaneous death of every male mammal"

My god that's horrible, that means after awhile no more steak or bacon.
