Y: The Last Man Movie Update!

A short article about Director DJ Caruso putting the finishing touches on the script...

According to an interview he did with comingsoon.net, DJ Caruso, who is set to Direct the feature film, is placing the final touches on the script of what could be... THE BEST COMIC TO FILM ADAPTATION EVER!!! Hopefully...

Caruso is still currently tweeking the Brian K. Vaughn adaptation, and he had this to say, "I think it's one of those that the source material is fantastic stuff, it's great, but it's a tough one to lick into getting into a screenplay. I've tried to feel like it's a trilogy of movies and I think everyone sort of agrees, but at the same time, just getting the first movie right and getting the right beats and knowing what to put in, it's been really tough. You have great minds like David Goyer and you've got Carl Ellsworth and you've got Brian K. Vaughn, and I'm working with them to just kind of crack it and get it down. And we're almost there. I know it's a slow process, but I think eventually we'll get it. We're going to get it and we'll get it right, but we had a pretty good breakthrough a couple weeks ago in the final act, and hopefully we'll get there."

I usually don't pray religiously for movies to do well, but this is really important to me. I am the ultimate Y: The Last Man Fan! I'm pissed off on the inside because I have this suspicion that Caruso is going to try and go for the mass appeal(preppy high school f*cks) of a PG-13 rating. If that happens, I will go to Mars like Dr. Manhattan...

I will say this only once, this is R-rated and Mature material... Leave it that way Caruso... Or else I will shop-lift Eagle Eye from Wal-Mart and burn it a hundred times and sell them on Ebay as "Eagle Eye Coasters"! R Rating damn it! I know you want LaBeouf, but make him actually act like he had to in A Guide To Recongnizing Your Saints... Thought provoking and with maturity... Foul language, violence, and Lesbian scenes intact... Or else...

Please, god, no Shia LeBeouf. Hellblazer and now this? Come on! Give us James McAvoy or something.

Anyway, the only reason 'Y' would require an R-rating is the scenes of mass carnage, the streets filled with decaying bodies of dead men.

It's not 100 bullets, the violence is sparse and not all that graphic. And I recall one lesbian scene in all 60 issues, any other implication of sex is depicted in post-coitus.

It should be a series.
A film would condense it WAY too much!

Actually, the f-word is in that book numerous amounts of times. There is also alot of scenes of brains being blown out, alot. There is also alot of nude scenes, and I beleive there's one with beth #2. Yorick does a full frontal in... but they can leave that one out... lol! It's definately not a 100 bullet, that is correct, but the dialouge is fresh, smart, and filled with curse words. It's very mature dialouge. Reminds me of a Kevin Smith movie or something. Also, issue number 1 would definately require an r rating, dudes coughi up their gut and sh*t, and broads blastin themselves. Then you got the broads with one tit chopped off runnin arround poppin heads like nothing. A bunch of things to warrant an R Rating, either way, even if violence is sparse, I still want it in there. They need to include it in this movie, and this book is too intellegent to try and reach audiences under 17. I really think that it should be marketed as a "riveting" film, kind of like Children Of Men, no reason for an R rating, it's absud, and it will get dissrespected by everyone.

I actually don't care for LaBeouf, and I personally feel he helped kill the latest stinkweed that was labeled "Indiana Jones", but or some strange reason... I think he's actually a great idea for THIS role!
(And I agree with you, saintc, they definitely need to keep this one R rated, and for mature audiences!)
This movie deals with very intense imagery, and depictions of violence that are not intended merely for "shock value", but to paint a piognant, visual image of what human beings are REALLY capable of!

Man I hope this is going to be good...

I also don't think Shia Labouf can be Y. He just doesn't look the part or really feel the part. Yeah I think he could pull off the attitude or humor...but it just wouldn't be Y.

I definately like the thought of Mcavoy or Zachary Levi from the tv show Chuck. Levi would get my vote.

DSAhawker, my avatar is from the cover of Criminal v2 #2, by Ed Brubaker and Sean Philips.

A great series, btw, perhaps the best being currently published.

I think Shia could work well in this role. Someone said they wanted Ryan Reynolds on some other site, but I think casting him would take the humor over the top just a bit... for some strange reason, you can never take a Ryan Reynolds character seriously, although i enjoy most of his work.

Lets just make sure Ampersand isn't CGI... that would be awful.

No, Caruso stated Ampersand will be a real monkey... Fact, so u don't have to worry about the CGI monkey, a well trained spider monkey will play Ampersand.
