CONFIRMED: The Final Season Of HBO's GAME OF THRONES Won't Air Until Next Year

HBO has finally confirmed the bad news: the final six episodes of Game of Thrones will not air until 2019.

The network shared a brief press release with Watchers on The Wall:

Your readers may be interested to know that the hit HBO series GAME OF THRONES will return for its six-episode, eighth and final season in 2019.

Directors for the new season are: David Benioff & D.B. Weiss, David Nutter and Miguel Sapochnik. Writers for the new season are: David Benioff & D.B. Weiss, Bryan Cogman and Dave Hill. Season seven credits: The executive producers of GAME OF THRONES are David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, Carolyn Strauss, Frank Doelger and Bernadette Caulfield; co-executive producers, Bryan Cogman, Guymon Casady, Vince Gerardis and George R.R. Martin.

As disappointing as this news will be for Westeros fans, it does make the most sense from a creative standpoint. The show has become more and more expensive and time consuming to produce over the years, and the last thing anyone wants is for the highly-anticipated conclusion to be rushed.

Like i said in the other thread, i will really miss this show, eventhough there are cool things to look forward to on HBO, such as Westworld and Watchmen, it will be hard to replace a show like GoT.

I heard they are making 4 or 5 spin-offs tv shows tho! :P

If the main producers and writers of this show, David and Dan, had actually stuck more closely to the books and didn't actually cut important plotlines - Victarion Greyjoy, Aegon Targaryen, Arianne Martell, the Grand Northern Conspiracy etc. - then the show wouldn't have even caught up to the books by now and we wouldn't have this show.

Screw D&D for destroying this great show because of their own arrogance and incompetence.

I'm alright with this, no need to rush. I'll be fine with West World to hold me over. For me the first season of West World was better than Game of Thrones, but that is just me.
