Go Rorschach, he's my favorite character in Watchmen, because he's the truth and rather die to tell the world the truth. He even a better hero than Dr. Manhatten

Yeah this is my fave clip so far, great stuff..the voice isnt near as grating as i thought it would be from the first clip, its actually much more monotone and whispery like its described as being
FattSmelliott
FattSmelliott - 2/24/2009, 8:55 AM
awesome, but in that first bit when he is talking in the graphic novel wasn't here wearing his normal clothes with 'the end is nigh' board? Not that I'm complaining though I may be a picky fan boy, but even I have a limit. I've heard some people complain that in the book the comedian didn't have a moustache in one scene, but in the film he does. Even I must admit that is extreme :)

Amazing...left good taste in mouth...haha, man, this makes me want to see the movie even more now! oh and FattSmelliott, he holds his sign in the beginning while the detectives are investigating the murder, yes his monologue is going through it, but I think for movie's sake, this had to be done, and I think it was perfect, can't wait!

i have chills of awesomeness running down my spine.

From what I've seen Snyder has done a great job w/ this movie.

Rorschach's journal entries seem to go along pretty well with what was in the graphic novel. ^_^

can't wait to see this movie.

maaaan this was a great clip!!! I was sooo into it that I forgot that I was watching the clip HAHA! I was like "Wait, wha-NOOO!!!" lol

But yeah I can't believe what happened at the end, mostly about what happened to Rorshach. I couldn't figure out how I felt cuz it was just that crazy to me. But yeah Rorshach is like the only honest superhero man...he's too awesome!
crappybumbum
crappybumbum - 2/24/2009, 10:43 AM
they say whores just not in this clip and if they don't then they probably cut it out. But I'm sure they'll put in "whores" cuz if you go to the official website they have these little audio clips and "about me" kinda things and you hear Rorshach say the first part of this clip including the word whores
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 2/24/2009, 10:47 AM
If they do leave out the word, my guess is its because they want to make Rorschach a little more sympathetic than he was in the graphic novel.

could someone please explain to me how, if the hook latches to the window, rorscharch jumps right into the room?

I mean his hook should have latched onto a higher floor or he has physic bending powers. Anyway I still can't make my mind, some things look cool, but somethings, well they seem bad.

I really hate Snyder and his hand movements, I just feel like he's a motivational speaker.

If I had any worries about this movie, they're completely gone now. That was amazing. This movie is going to be epic. And I'm glad to finally know what the hell that scene with Rorschach's near inhuman ladder-leap or whatever came from. Makes sense in context.

noobmike, it's called the law of inertia. an object in motion stays in motion. assuming that the grappling hook pulled him up with enough accelerating motion, once he rolled up all his rope, as long as he had gained enough accelerating power, he would continue to go up until gravity had completely decelerated him. he wouldn't just stop. still without the hook assisting his climb, he would need a tremendous amount of lift to keep his acceleration high enough to allow him to move beyond the point of attachment. this means the lifting capabilities of his grappling hook are phenomenal. the hook lifts him fast enough so that he continues traveling just far enough past the window sill in order to get his feet right on it. we're learning about inertia in school.it's like when you throw a ball straight up. your hand asists it's lift at first, but inertia keeps it going the rest of the way until gravity slows it down to a complete rest, then it falls again.

FalconX2 - 2/24/2009, 3:38 PM
@NoobMike - I found the grappling hook... Odd as well. My concern was more that it just pulled him right up, almost as if he could magically fly. Regardless of what the science behind it might be. However, considering in the comic he walks his way up the side of the building... I would rather see the magic rope than wait for him to climb up, as it fits the monologue he is giving.

What I love most about this clip is he actually says "all the politicians will look up" and it seems like the audio actually skips a bit... So I'm hoping the "Super Deluxe Mega Ultimate Director's cut" has the FULL dialogue. Whores, politicians and all!

This clip has given me the most hope of all for this film.

As far as reviews go: http://geek-tastic.com/?p=2858

I posted it over on the Wil Wheaton article. For me, it best fits my taste. He seems to take into consideration a lot of the same aspects I would.

I just wonder if he really thought the squid was far fetched, or if this "new and improved" ending is so "awesome" it made a believer out of him.

I stand by, it was the outlandishness of the squid that I thought made it great. But we'll see March 6th, won't we :)

"looks boring..."

It's been my experience, the more people say this, the more likely I will love it. :D

This clip was great. Can't wait to see the movie. Yes, they did make some mistakes like having the monologue start when Rorshach is going into Blake's Apartment and things happen a bit fast, but who cares. It's Hollywood, they change things. Hopefully the movie will do as good as the book.
Stumblin
Stumblin - 2/24/2009, 4:40 PM
I think they didn't place "whores" in the dialogue because this clip is for the open public. Kind of like the trailer for Wolverine: Origins, when Wolverine makes his remark about how to kill Sabertooth. On TV we get "...cut your head off, see if that works" at the convention or uncensored it's "...cut your damn head off, see if that works."

I digress...This movie looks fantastic, and GREAT casting job on Rorschach! He definitely nailed the "Hurmph."

This is not a bust on anybody and this kind of argument comes up in science fiction/fantasy movie discussion all the time buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut.....

I find it funny that some of you are arguing the physics of the grappling gun and how it might be unrealistic but are completely willing to accept that there is an OMNIPOTENT NAKED BLUE man running around in this movie lol.

Like I said not busting on ya because I've been guilty of those kinds of things all the time lol. But it's funny that we do that don't you think?
realfirstavenger
realfirstavenger - 2/24/2009, 4:49 PM
lol first off the things you people are picking on in this film make me laugh, i hope noone is expecting every moment of the movie to progress exactly as the comic does, because they are two very different mediums

now about the clip, i just decided earlier today to re-read the Watchmen again in preparation for the movie, and i finished issue 1 earlier. have to say it is fantastic to come here and essentially see what I have read come to life. great, great clip. i think alan more did a better rorschach voice but he is the master and none can do it better :) watch the interview where he reads the same first part of the journal, amazing.

Like someone already said on the production website it has the clip of Rorschach using the words whores and politicians, I'm fairly confident it will be complete in the normal theatrical release.

If you've seen Snyder in a fair number of interviews you'll realize he's nothing like a motivational speaker, in fact he's more like an awkward geek, kind of reminds me of my disjointed stream of consciousness style of communication, but yeah not slick and salesmaney at all.
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 2/24/2009, 5:22 PM
Mnnmmm..i dont know how to break this to you quagmire..but this isnt the comic!
JeremyBentham
JeremyBentham - 2/24/2009, 6:35 PM
Quagmire, I have to say that your idea with the smiley logo and the "true face" part would've been awesome, and I agree that the ironic scene flashes of blake's death would be cool over the detectives talking, like in the comic...but, i haven't seen the movie, and who knows, snyder may have come up with an execution just as good.

i kind of wish everyone would just stop complaining about petty differences though...Really, FattSmelliott? does it really matter if the monologue is shown while an unmasked Rorschach is holding the sign? it still works the way it is in the clip, doesn't it? It seems like some geeks have nothing better to do than nit pick at all these differences. Who the hell cares? Obviously, when you see this movie, you see the Watchmen on the big screen (the way it seems from the clips I've see) and as long as its also enjoyable, that's all that matters!
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 2/24/2009, 6:40 PM
But what you may see as poetic others may see as blatant and obvious symbolism!
BOOK552
BOOK552 - 2/24/2009, 6:56 PM
comicfan101 you stole my picture!!!! haha

but honestly just because the scenes are different in the comic dosen't meen it would work in a movie, as long as the effect of the comic is in the movie (and from what i have heard it is all there) this movie should be great
Bubastis
Bubastis - 2/24/2009, 7:03 PM
Hurm, hopefully people don't forget about this movie come oscar time, a best supporting actor for Jackie Earle Haley off this year's for Heath Ledger would greatly improve the validity of Comic book movies...that is until they make Ghost Rider 2.
realfirstavenger
realfirstavenger - 2/24/2009, 7:16 PM
gah dont mention ghost rider 2

aka Nicolas Cage Goes to Europe

back to watchmen, i really have to laugh at someone writing in this forum who acts like they could make a better adaptation than what snyder has made. it has been said and is clear from everything we have seen that this is as close to the comics as can be. its kinda sad that the fact that it doesnt show the smiley face when he says 'ive seen your true face' is something you want to complain about. i literally just put down issue 1 and can say that this clip is great, almost straight from the pages of the book, and is going to be more than entertaining.
FalconX2
FalconX2 - 2/24/2009, 7:43 PM
"The bellhop responds “ground floor coming up…” and with this line, we see Blake thrown through the window and fall to his death. Snyder completely misses these dramatic ironies and it is sad to see this poetic touch lost."

You will be amazed now many people miss this in the comic. It is these touches that I love about it as well, however, the characterizations are much more important overall (and I emphasize overall). If he can keep the storyline in order and on track, make the characters accurate and believable, and can add in those "little touches" when possible. Then things look good in my opinion.

Just gotta wait movie time to find out. :\

I will say this, one little touch that I love about that clip, is him having to hit the flashlight. Even shedding a little light in Rorschach's world comes with difficulty.
