Cool!!

I’m pleasantly surprised to see The Day of The Jackal get nominated , I binged it over the weekend (the finale is on Thursday)…

I have liked it so far and Eddie Redmayne is quite good in it as this cold & calculating assassin so I would recommend giving it a shot!!.

Anyway , I also think there’s a very good chance both Colin Farrell & Cristin Miloti win in their respective categories (moreso the latter then former).

Both shows were great.

@SonOfAGif - Not really. THE PENGUIN WAS GREAT. Agatha... not so much... a crappy average flavor of the week MCU content

@JuanRGuijarro - That's your opinion and it's completely respectable. But don't undermine mine. I thought they were both great. Penguin was better by miles but both were enjoyable and had some nice twists and turns.

@JuanRGuijarro - i haven't seen Agatha yet but I doubt a flavour of the week type show would get nominated by the golden globes 😅.

How the f*ck is Denis Villenueve not nominated for best director?

Congrats to Colin Farrel who I think might take it and Cristin Milioti who has some stiff competition so she may not take it.

Challengers and The Substance is a musical or comedy? I did not see either of these but I did not get the impression they fit in that catagory. Don't get it!

@EskimoJ - Yeah! I am going by the impression the marketing of these films created. When I look up the films on wikipedia for example, one is described as a "romance" film and the other a "horror" film. Am I wrong?

Collin Ferrel is the only actor from either show that should get an award for his performance. Dude changed his whole entity to become the Penguin.

Colin Farrell definitely deserves it. I've only seen the first episode of the penguin, and outside of it being derivative of The sopranos, I thought it was absolutely fantastic.

I enjoyed Agatha all along as well, but not sure it's deserving of an award 🤔
InfraMan

I didn’t really think of The Substance as a comedy, but in retrospect I guess it actually was. That’s about as dark as comedy gets, lol… probably my favorite movie of the past year.
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 12/9/2024, 11:07 AM
@InfraMan - it's definitely got black comedy elements, but this the problem these idiotic awards face when they want to recognize a genre movie that doesn't fit into any of their categories.
InfraMan
InfraMan - 12/9/2024, 11:17 AM
@MarkCassidy - Yeah, there’s always some questionable decisions. They’re really committing to the whole “The Bear is a comedy” thing, lol.

At any rate, I’m hoping Shogun cleans up!
Apophis71
Apophis71 - 12/9/2024, 12:39 PM
@InfraMan - Yeh I don't get The Bear being comedy, oft some splitting into genres I think are a stretch but that one I don't get at all.

Does it have funny moments, sure, most RL style drama will as there is funny moments in RL even during dark times but for me it is ONLY a RL style drama, NOT a comedy.

The primary thing I get from it is this could be the real life struggles of a chef NOT a vehicle created for comedic purposes.

I'm not really impressed by any of the nominees this year. Especially in the Musical/Comedy categories. The Bear or The Substance doesn't really qualify as either imo for example

The penguin was phenomenal
bcom
bcom - 12/9/2024, 3:10 PM
The Penguin should clean up every category it is nominated for. Every aspect of that show from the writing, directing, acting, makeup, set design etc... was S tier stuff. Everyone brought their A game to that show.

“Challengers” as a comedy is the highlight of this news.
