There's still a lot of confusion about whether the Marvel Television properties are considered canon in the MCU. While some familiar faces from those shows have recently returned, we've so far seen nothing to suggest that the events of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Inhumans, for example, have any bearing on what stories Marvel Studios tells.
This was evident from a new version of the Darkhold being introduced in WandaVision, and it's probably safe at this point to assume all those TV shows were set on a different Earth.
During a recent interview with Screen Rant, Daredevil and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law star Charlie Cox was asked if he believes the former is canon in the MCU. "Yeah, I don’t know. But my instinct is based on the name of the show, it’s called Born Again, the fact...that Kevin [Feige] talks about it as being a Season 1, rather than a Season 4, my feeling is, this is a whole new deal."
That makes sense, and while we're sure more familiar faces will return (heck, they may even reference some past events), don't go into Daredevil: Born Again expecting Daredevil season 4!
During the same conversation, Cox teased his "momentous" reunion with Kingpin actor Vincent D'Onofrio.
"There’s gonna be a day at some point in the future, where I’m gonna be in New York, I’m gonna show up to work, I’m gonna put on my costume, and I’m gonna walk on set with him, and that is gonna be a momentous occasion," the actor says. "I’m like, emotional just thinking about it."
"We haven’t had that since we shot the scene at the end of Season 3 where the big fight and emotional dialogue that we have, we haven’t been on set together since then," Cox adds. "So, it’s going to be six years. I can’t wait for that moment to be on with that lovely man on set going back deep into these characters and making great stories."
It's an exciting time to be a fan of the Man Without Fear, though we're not sure anyone is more excited for the hero's MCU role than Cox himself! It's great to see him and D'Onofrio given the chance to interact with the other characters who inhabit that world, and we're sure Daredevil: Born Again will see Matt Murdock cross paths with all sorts of heroes and villains.
The series is set to premiere on Disney+ in 2024.
