DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN Lead On Whether Netflix Show Is Canon; Teases "Momentous" Reunion With Vincent D'Onofrio

Daredevil: Born Again star Charlie Cox has once again shared his thoughts on how Netflix's Daredevil ties into the MCU, while also teasing his upcoming reunion with Wilson Fisk actor Vincent D'Onofrio.

There's still a lot of confusion about whether the Marvel Television properties are considered canon in the MCU. While some familiar faces from those shows have recently returned, we've so far seen nothing to suggest that the events of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Inhumans, for example, have any bearing on what stories Marvel Studios tells.

This was evident from a new version of the Darkhold being introduced in WandaVision, and it's probably safe at this point to assume all those TV shows were set on a different Earth.

During a recent interview with Screen Rant, Daredevil and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law star Charlie Cox was asked if he believes the former is canon in the MCU. "Yeah, I don’t know. But my instinct is based on the name of the show, it’s called Born Again, the fact...that Kevin [Feige] talks about it as being a Season 1, rather than a Season 4, my feeling is, this is a whole new deal."

That makes sense, and while we're sure more familiar faces will return (heck, they may even reference some past events), don't go into Daredevil: Born Again expecting Daredevil season 4!

During the same conversation, Cox teased his "momentous" reunion with Kingpin actor Vincent D'Onofrio.

"There’s gonna be a day at some point in the future, where I’m gonna be in New York, I’m gonna show up to work, I’m gonna put on my costume, and I’m gonna walk on set with him, and that is gonna be a momentous occasion," the actor says. "I’m like, emotional just thinking about it."

"We haven’t had that since we shot the scene at the end of Season 3 where the big fight and emotional dialogue that we have, we haven’t been on set together since then," Cox adds. "So, it’s going to be six years. I can’t wait for that moment to be on with that lovely man on set going back deep into these characters and making great stories."

It's an exciting time to be a fan of the Man Without Fear, though we're not sure anyone is more excited for the hero's MCU role than Cox himself! It's great to see him and D'Onofrio given the chance to interact with the other characters who inhabit that world, and we're sure Daredevil: Born Again will see Matt Murdock cross paths with all sorts of heroes and villains.

The series is set to premiere on Disney+ in 2024.

@kylo0607 - We already saw how different Kingpin was in Hawkeye. Everyone just needs to accept that the Netflix-verse was different from MCU and these are all variants.

Well if that's the case, then I don't know how to feel.

I think I would be correct to assume that by wanting Charlie Cox to return, we all specifically wanted Netflix's Daredevil to continue.

If Born Again is a significant departure from the Netflix series in tone, characterization, and/or events, then the cast's return may be unecessary, dare I say even unwanted to me personally.

Because of it, the new series is going to face an uphill battle to meet expectations based on the old show. It becomes very hard to dissociate the two shows when their characters share the same faces and names. And to deliberately put yourself in that position by bringing back the old cast may be a very unwise decision.

But who knows? Maybe that's not the case. Maybe Bron Again can be as much of a conitnuation as a season 4 could have been. Only time will tell, and I'll give them the benefit of the doubt until I see it.

@Fares - You gotta be careful what you wish for.
If they did make Netflix canon, then that makes Iron Fist and Defenders canon too. I for one think Luke Cage could be done better, not to mention the Elektra Saga.

@ObserverIO - I personally have no problem with that. I found all of the Netflix series to range from "fine" to "great". So personally I'm good with having them be continued, and why not even be improved.

I seriously believe that Charlie, Vincent en Jonn wouldnt have come back if Feige has the idea to disrespect the characters theyve build up through the series.

I'm also 100% convinced that Feige knows what happens when you disrespect a beloved series/character.

@OptimusCrime - Jon is not coming back, and he says is because they think they would disrespect the character.

I don’t think he has any more idea than we do lol!

Seems totally pointless not to just make it canon when bringing back so much of the cast. Don’t fix what ain’t broke and don’t throw away all the great story and character work of that original series. That like 90% of the reason people want to see this character so badly.

That’s my opinion at least.
