There's a lot of intrigue surrounding Echo, particularly as it's going to be Marvel Studios' first TV-MA series (falling under the newly created "Marvel Spotlight" banner)' It appears to very much be in line with Netflix's Daredevil, an appropriate decision given the Man Without Fear and Kingpin of Crime's respective roles in the show.

Today, we have some new details about what to expect courtesy of a reliable leaker, @Cryptic4KQual (whose track record, thus far, has been flawless).

It's said that "Echo's gripping journey unfolds through poignant flashbacks in the series, unveiling a tragic car accident, the loss of her mother, and the loss of her leg. Her father's ties to Kingpin and Echo's training as an enforcer are revealed. Her history with Daredevil from her days under Kingpin's influence is also explored."

While Daredevil isn't expected to play a major role in the Disney+ series, it appears he'll be doing more than just fighting Maya when they cross paths. Of course, it would make sense for him to try and talk her out of trusting Wilson Fisk, though we can safely assume she didn't take it on board (at least not until Hawkeye).

The leaker has also shed new light on Echo's superpowers. They explain, "Pursued by the Cartel's hired killers, Echo skillfully showcases her combat prowess, catching them off guard with her unexpected superiority. The peril intensifies, endangering her entire hometown."

"This compels Echo to embark on a spiritual quest. This odyssey ultimately guides her to attain mystical tattoos, endowing her with extraordinary superhuman abilities."

We're definitely intrigued by where this story is heading and what it all means for Echo's place in the MCU moving forward. "Marvel Spotlight" projects are supposed to be relatively standalone in nature, but we'd be shocked if this is the last we see of Maya.

The five-episode streaming event spotlights Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox) as she is pursued by Wilson Fisk's (Vincent D'Onofrio) criminal empire. When the journey brings her home, she must confront her own family and legacy.

Echo also stars Chaske Spencer (Wild IndianThe English), Graham Greene (1883Goliath), Tantoo Cardinal (Killers of the Flower MoonStumptown), Devery Jacobs (FX's Reservation DogsAmerican Gods), Zahn McClarnon (Dark Winds, FX's Reservation Dogs), Cody Lightning (Hey, Viktor!Four Sheets to the Wind) and Vincent D’Onofrio (HawkeyeGodfather of Harlem).

The series is directed by Sydney Freeland (Navajo) and Catriona McKenzie (Gunaikurnai).

All five episodes of Echo will premiere on Disney+ and Hulu on January 10.
