John Walker might be the most hated character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe right now, but he's not really done anything thing wrong (yet).
Despite having no superpowers, he's raced into action alongside Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, while we've even learned that he was an exemplary soldier who earned three Medals of Honor for his heroic actions.
The problem is, he's just not Steve Rogers.
Talking to Screen Rant, actor Wyatt Russell opened up on how the way he's been spurned by Sam and Bucky has affected his Captain America.
"He appreciated what they were doing when they were doing it as Avengers, and he paid attention. He wanted to do good like them, so when your heroes don't give you the response that you'd like, it's like, "Don't meet your heroes." It can kind of crush you."
"But he might go to a different place than some people will have gone," the actor teased, "having suffered some of the injuries that he's suffered in previous war."
The site also asked about Walker's future in the MCU, pointing out that he's been both an Avenger and Thunderbolt. However, Russell chose his words carefully about what might come next for his character.
"Above my paygrade. I don't know," he responded. "Hopefully, people like it, and it works. And then if Marvel decides that they would like to use him again, that'd be fantastic and great. I'd love to. I had a wonderful experience working with them. And from what I've heard, the show's really turned out great. That is a nice vote of confidence, so I'm hoping. I'd love to; of course I would."
It would be crazy to think that there's not something in store for Walker beyond The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, and many fans remain convinced that the Thunderbolts will assemble at some point.
We'll have to wait and see as the new Cap's story has only really just begun...
