TFATWS Writer Believes CAPTAIN AMERICA 4 Will Address Sam Wilson's Lack Of Super-Powers

Although he still hasn't confirmed that he's involved with Captain America 4, TFATWS head writer Malcolm Spellman has outlined some of the issues he foresees Sam Wilson dealing with moving forward...

Sam Wilson decided to put his doubts aside and embrace his destiny by officially taking up the mantle of Captain America in the recent season finale of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, facing-off against some very powerful enemies without the aid of the super-soldier serum.

The Wakandan-made wings Bucky gave him certainly seem to be more powerful than his previous flight-suit, but moving forward, the new Cap is going to have to do his best to live up to Steve Rogers' legacy without the advantage of enhanced abilities.

The Disney+ show's head writer Malcolm Spellman was asked how he sees Sam's arc progressing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe during an interview, and said he anticipates the character's lack of super-powers factoring into his story.

"I believe that's going to be his conflict moving forward. It's appropriate," Spellman tells Everyone Loves a Good Story. "In the action genre, what made Die Hard a classic wasn't who Bruce Willis beat, it was what he went through to beat them. He's walking through glass with no shoes on, you know what I'm saying? That's what people can identify with: 'This motherfu*ker is just like me and taking on the bad guys.' What better hero than that to root for?"

If Spellman is going to taking charge of Sam's continuing adventures in the MCU, then he may have given us some insight into what he has in store for the new Sentinel of Liberty in Captain America 4 - although he's yet to actually confirm the recent trade report that he'll be writing the movie with fellow TFATWS scribe Dalan Musson!

Sam doesn't need Super powers to fight enemies. He has been fighting enemies as Falcon for years. They just need to stop underpowering Bucky.

@SonOfAGif - I think Marvel studios basically underpowered every superhero in the MCU and that’s including Falcon.

@LiteralSense90 - I don't mind some heroes having reduced power sets but I hate when a hero gets established as having a specific set of skills and powers and suddenly for the sake of the plot they are underpowered. Wanda was handled perfectly in Endgame and her show. So was Vision. I'm hoping they don't underpower them in future movies.

@SonOfAGif - Agreed. Its stupid. There are lots of characters without powers. Hawkeye. Black Widow. Star Lord. Falcon. Hell, you could even throw Iron Man in there. He didn't have powers either, he had tech. But so does Falcon-Cap. His wings, Redwing, and shield are his "powers" much like how Stark's armor was his "power".

I feel like they ready covered the non-powered Falcon-Cap angle in this show. Why continue playing on that? Do something else.

@LiteralSense90 - I disagree with Falcon. Granted, I didn't read a ton of comics with Falcon growint up, but wasn't he always just a non-powered human with wings and a falcon pet?

If anything I feel like they overpowered him in the MCU. He has his wings, bit in the early MCU days he flew around with machine pistols also, which he never used to do in the comics. And on top of that, the MCU Redwing is a drone with all sorts of tech and weapons, including missiles. He's got way more at his disposal in the MCU than he ever did in the comics.

@SonOfAGif - Facts, Bucky was vastly nerfed in this show. One of my criticism about that show.

@ShellyMando - I think it's a difference between nerfed and holding all the way back. Bucky doesn't like fighting and pulls punches but in winter soldier mode he never holds back. At least that's the way I took it

First the comment about Sam communicating with the birds and now this. Maybe the villain is related to all this.

I think of Karl Malus and the Serpent Society.
