HAWKEYE Star Jeremy Renner Confirms Plans For MCU Return Following His Accident Earlier This Year

Avengers: Endgame star Jeremy Renner has addressed his MCU future following his near-death experience earlier this year, confirming he's just waiting to hear from Marvel Studios about playing Hawkeye again.

Hawkeye star Jeremy Renner proved himself a real hero this year when he saved his nephew in a slow plow accident that very nearly ended up costing the actor his life.

Initially, it was unclear how well Renner would recover from his life-threatening injuries, but he's clearly as tough as the Avenger he plays in the MCU as his recovery seems to be going well. While he still has a long way to go (he's currently using a walking stick, for example), it sounds like Renner is ready and willing to suit up as Clint Barton again.

During a panel at the Phoenix Fan Fusion event this weekend, the Avengers: Endgame star was asked about his future as Hawkeye, prompting him to confirm he's just waiting to receive a call from Marvel Studios.

Whether he'll be ready to shoot movies like Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars is hard to say, though delays caused by the ongoing WGA strike may go in Renner's favour.

After all, those give him more time to recover and mean the actor can be better prepared to reprise his role as Hawkeye, even if it's in a smaller-than-usual capacity. While his solo series alongside Hailee Steinfeld's Kate Bishop was a hit on Disney+, there's never been any indication that a season 2 was being planned.

You can find out more about how Renner is doing in the Tweets below.

His return to the MCU would be fantastic for him, and the fans. Nothing like a good story of overcoming the odds to inspire people. Would love to see another season of the Hawkeyes if he's able to do it.

@RedFury - Hawkeye show was great, hope he's back soon. They'll have to write in an explanation for why Renner is slowly morphing into Jesse Plemons.

Didn’t Clint pretty much retire from hero work by the end of the Hawkeye TV series? I guess he has a valid excuse to give up field work and be the guy in the chair.

@santoanderson - He's retired several times.

@santoanderson - Yes, from his last words it looked like he was handing over the mantle to Kate.

@santoanderson - Retirement is like death in Marvel. It is just a phase.

even if he is on the cane, which i hope he is able to get rid of, he can still be a mentor type role to kate bishop ala batman beyond with old man bruce and mcginnis.

Hawkeye solo movie!

@MarvelZombie616 - That would be truly amazing although I doubt it would ever happen :(
There is still so much that can be done with the characters: His origin at the circus, the relationship with his brother and so much more...
The nerdy side of me also really want him to use his sky-cycle on screen :)

@ChrisRed - it could happen but marvel doesn't believe in making movies with a budget lower than $200m so it probably bomb. Still can't believe they spent 200m on widow and Shang chi

This is just too cool! Jeremy Renner is a machine... ON TOP of just being a swell human being!

They need to make Hawkeye the new "heart" of the Avengers. He is very much a figure people can look up to in the movies and real life...

Dude got mowed down by a snowplow. "Yeah sure, I'll be back on duty when the Avengers next assemble".

That's the wonder of modern medicine. And money.

He seems to be such a nice dude. Here's to his total recovery!

But don't sweat on the MCU, bro. You've already been part of its best moment.
Best thing would be to get out at the top (which wasn't his solo series, like AT ALL).

Even had his accident not happened, I don't understand why Kate Bishop wasn't set up better, to officially replace Clint as Hawkeye. And because Season 2 wasn't immediately greenlit, the whole situation is in limbo, for both Renner and Steinfeld. Kinda weird storytelling.

@99OPTIMISTPRIME - quite frankly, there are too many legacy characters dropping like flies all at once... we need some to stay around longer and mentor until the audience believes the noobs can lead the shows from now on.

Kinda expected the character to retire after Hawkeye. After the accident though, I think it would be cool to see Renner again

Jeremy Renner, Director of S.W.O.R.D.

Or have him do the Hawkeye voice work, and have Andy Serkis do all his action work, & then deepfake Renner's face on him.

What’s funny is that both Hawkeye and Tony first retired way back in AGE OF ULTRON.

Whenever he shows back up again, he will get absolute cheers. The character himself has also reached a point where he doesn't have to get too action-heavy anymore, but there are of course stunt doubles which have been utilized plenty.

Give him a $70 million street level movie meeting Mockingbird, which builds up an Avengers West Coast movie or series.
