INHUMANS Character Portraits Offer Best Look Yet At The Attilan's Heroes And Villains

Marvel has released a series of character portraits for Inhumans but they're probably not going to be enough to restore faith in the series amid overwhelmingly negative reviews and underwhelming trailers.

Marvel, ABC, and IMAX's collaboration on Inhumans was supposed to be historic as the chain responsible for the world's biggest cinema screens looked to bring the small screen to theaters in big budget style. Unfortunately, trailers for the show have not been received well by fans and neither have creative decisions made in regards to the appearance of characters like Black Bolt and Medusa.

The first review for Inhumans was not good and while it's still possible that the show will exceed expectations, it seems that we're probably best off not holding our breath for that being the case.

Regardless, Marvel has today released a new series of character portraits which may or may not get you more excited to see these characters make their live-action debut. Pictured below are Anson Mount as Black Bolt, Serinda Swan as Medusa, Eme Ikwuakor as Gorgon, Ken Leung as Karnak, Sonya Balmores as Auran, Ellen Woglom as Louise, and Mike Moh as Triton. There's no sign of Crystal, Lockjaw, or Maximus but these still leave us with lots to talk about. What's the deal with that wig?

I feel like they didn't imagine the world these characters inhabit and go from their, but instead went with what looks "superhero-ey but on a low budget" I don't see much creativity. It's just toned down versions of the comic instead of trying to do the comic but within the world established as others do. There is a difference between those things. One involves effort and creativity, the other is just toning it down.

Welp, i guess they really wasted all that big ass budget for strippers and booze!

Don't mind me, I just came to read the "[frick] Scott Buck" comments.

Black bolt looks bland,
medusa looks cheaply made,
Gorgon looks good but it's like they didn't even put any effort into him and got lucky,
Karnak is underwhelming and they really should have put effort into making his design a conscious reflection of the culture as he is a sort of monk-like character. Overall, serviceable,
Auran looks good but nothing like the comic,
I don't know who that woman is,
and Triton needs a larger fun and some scales.

I will still watch this, but I hope they put more effort into the story than the costumes

Damn. These look cheap too. Why is it that everything I see from this looks so low budget? From what I've heard, this show has a substantial budget. That's how they got Imax involved; promised them a movie-quality show. Don't get me wrong, I'll still watch it but, I just wanna know where all the money went.

@jerryblake - God damn you, I can't unsee this! Now I'm gonna think about Felicity while watching Inhumans, and it's not gonna make it any better. You're really not helping this show bro :)

Jesus christ... apparently a cast panel just occurred and ended early because reporters wouldn't stop asking about the show sucking. [Frick] I don't know whether to laugh or feel bad.

Those costumes throw me off as trying to be 1990's X-Men. The regality and weirdness is missing. I would imagine Attila would look like a city in Sakaar or even a more high tech version than Wakanda. I Also imagine the Inhumans costumes having designs like those aliens in Sakaar in the Thor Ragnarok trailer. It's too soon I believe to introduce these characters right now in this format. This deserves much better...I can tell you all, it feels like a misstep in art direction.

ah, so Gorgon stole his outfit from Deadpool in X-men Origins: Wolverine. Nice. And when I say nice, it's not nice, it's terrible.

Triton looks the worst out of all of them.

I know we're talking different mediums, budgets, (technically) studios, etc. but I really felt like The Inhumans should have been giving Guardians a run for their money in the make-up/creature effects department. IMHO, it is not. Like not even close. It's unfortunate, as I had been very excited about them joining the MCU... but between what they've done with the Inhumans concept on AoS and now their upcoming mini-series (that is what this is) I have lost all enthusiasm over the property.

Feels like Jeph Loeb's "Ultimates 3" all over again. The only difference is that comic -looked- amazing.

@CapsUnknownSidekick - While there is obvious budget restraints, I think there is an obvious move to make them more distinct from the other aliens species in the MCU. Guardians has embraced the more gir rant colours specifies (Gamora , Yondu etc).
I think they also wanted to emphasises the fact that the are more human by retaining as much human qualities as the can.
Personally, while I do agree it should have been a film, I honestly think theses designs look fine. Medusas hair looked great in the clip released, there was a part were her hair stood up and it looked exactly like the comics.

Triton should look like a slightly more human version of Abe Sapien from Hellboy

Ive just watched Serinda Swan on Ballers on HBO. SHE LOOKS GORGEOUS THERE! Why does she look so dowdy and stiff in Inhumans?
