The penultimate episode of Loki will arrive on Disney+ later this evening, but more intriguing details about where the show is heading have found their way online today.
Over the weekend, we shared some promo art depicting Tom Hiddleston's God of Mischief boasting a startlingly different appearance. Since then, a mid-season trailer has been released which saw the plot thicken; now, the prevailing theory is that Loki will soon take He Who Remains' place as ruler of the Multiverse.
Some upcoming Funko Pops may go some way in confirming that because a figure is on the way dubbed "God Loki on Throne." As for Mobius, when Loki encounters his past self, it will seemingly be as "Don," a Jet Ski salesman.
In related news, a couple of reliable online scoopers have also shared some insights into Marvel Studios' plans for Loki. As suspected, it appears the Asgardian does become the new He Who Remains, holding the Multiverse together but allowing it to be free (unlike Kang, who forcibly created the "Sacred Timeline").
That's going to require a tremendous amount of power and we'd guess Loki will be left unable to do anything about the impending Multiversal War or those incursions. Even so, he's being set up as a major player in the Multiverse Saga and Marvel Studios' upcoming Avengers movies.
However, it seems the plan is to end this story on a deliberately open-ended note because, "If they want to completely dump Kang and his Variants, the ending of Loki [season 2] sets them up just for that."
Consider us intrigued.
Loki season 2 will pick up in the aftermath of the shocking season finale when Loki finds himself in a battle for the soul of the Time Variance Authority. Along with Mobius, Hunter B-15 and a team of new and returning characters, Loki navigates an ever-expanding and increasingly dangerous multiverse in search of Sylvie, Judge Renslayer, Miss Minutes and the truth of what it means to possess free will and glorious purpose.
The series stars Tom Hiddleston, Sophia Di Martino, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Wunmi Mosaku, Eugene Cordero, Rafael Casal, Tara Strong, Kate Dickie, Liz Carr, Neil Ellice, with Jonathan Majors, Ke Huy Quan and Owen Wilson.
Justin Benson & Aaron Moorhead, Dan Deleeuw and Kasra Farahani direct episodes. The Head Writer is Eric Martin.
The first four episodes of Loki season 2 are now streaming on Disney+.
