LUKE CAGE Director Confirms There Were Once Plans For A DAUGHTERS OF THE DRAGON Spin-Off Series

Director Marc Jobst worked on a number of Marvel Television TV shows, including Daredevil, The Punisher, and Luke Cage. For the latter, he helmed an episode titled "Wig Out" which, as you may recall, put the spotlight on Misty Knight (Simone Missick) and Colleen Wing (Jessica Henwick).

Much to the delight of many fans, it really deepened the relationship between the two characters who, on the page, are better known as the Daughters of the Dragon.

Talking to The Hollywood Reporter, Jobst confirmed that the idea was for the episode to serve as a backdoor pilot, testing the water for an eventual spin-off series revolving around this fan-favourite duo's adventures together.

"Yes, absolutely. There was some relationship building in the episode, starting with the boxing ring training," he explains. "That culminated in Colleen deliberately leading Misty into a fight to get over her self-pity, knowing that Misty would rise to it, which she did."

"The two of them going off into the smoke and bokeh as a definite twosome was a nod to the potential of Daughters of the Dragon."

When Disney decided to launch Disney+, Marvel Television and its Netflix TV shows quickly started falling like dominoes. They were cancelled one after the other until none were left. As a result, many cliffhangers and storylines were left unresolved and only Daredevil and The Punisher look set to make the leap to the MCU.

When we spoke to Henwick back in 2020, she too confirmed plans for a Daughters of the Dragon project.

"There had been very light discussions about Daughters of the Dragon happening," the actress confirmed, "which I would have loved because working opposite Simone [Missick] was such a dream, and I think she’s so talented and perfect for the role."

"I do remember some very vague discussions, but you keep your fingers crossed and never know what’s going to happen in this industry. I’m just glad I got to play such an incredible arc with Colleen and I feel very happy that we ended on such a high note for her."

Of all the Netflix characters expected to appear in the MCU, we're not banking on Misty or Colleen being among them. There are rumblings Jessica Jones could follow Matt Murdock and Frank Castle, but it seems the current idea is for everyone else to eventually be recast.

Yeah there was quite a few of us fans that was hoping this woud come to pass. Definitely had a lot of potential. Still does actually with those two actresses, but Disney being Disney, doubt if it will ever happen.

@Mugens - both Daughters of the Dragon and Heroes for Hire could make for fun six-episode shows or special presentations imo. But yeah, it probably won't happen

I was hoping we'd get Daughters of the Dragon and Heroes For Hire, and then have those, Daredevil and Punisher all build up to another crossover event (probably Shadowland). Or maybe they could even have introduced Moon Knight, Ghost Rider and Blade into the Netflix universe and do Midnight Sons as their next crossover event.

Of course, The Defenders was a massive disappointment but there was definitely potential there.

@IronDean2099 - I still think a Midnight Sons could happen, albeit in the MCU.

It's a good way to tie all of the supernatural together with Doctor Strange, Moon Knight, Werewolf, Man-Thing, Elsa, and Blade. Perfect place to also introduce Mephisto imo.
