In today's episode of Ms. Marvel, Kamala Khan continued to gain better control of her newfound superpowers. They look a little more like her comic book counterpart's "embiggening" abilities now, though it's clear that the character won't be heading down the Inhuman route in this Disney+ series.
We'll see how things play out on that front, but the story also continued to develop elsewhere. Damage Control is on the hunt for Kamala and we saw Agent Deever and Agent Cleary essentially bully Zoe into admitting that Ms. Marvel is part of an ethnic minority community. In what is quite easily one of the most uncomfortable MCU scenes we've seen, a sweep of local temples and mosques is ordered, with Cleary even mentioning that those locations are already being surveilled by the FBI.
While her fellow Agent is clearly concerned with Deever's blatant racism (he warns her to "be respectful"), Cleary's comments and Damage Control's determination to bring in this young Muslim they deem to be dangerous are very topical. Clearly, Kamala's background will continue to be a big part of Ms. Marvel, as will how the U.S. Government continues to monitor minorities. The latter point obviously reflects the world we live in in an all too real way.
Near the end of this episode, Kamala saves a kid, but ends up being pursued by repurposed Stark drones...the same drones that Damage Control acquired in Spider-Man: No Way Home! The fact that they're using them to hunt superpowered teenagers is shady as hell, and it's clear this organisation is becoming increasingly villainous in nature.
While we don't anticipate seeing the web-slinger appear in Ms. Marvel. we can't help but wonder what Peter Parker (and Stark Industries, for that matter) would think about what's become of Iron Man's drones. Throw in S.W.O.R.D. rebuilding The Vision, and it sure feels like there's someone in the Government taking aim at Earth's Mightiest Heroes.
