Freeform To Debut Marvel's RUNAWAYS After CLOAK & DAGGER Season Finale

If you never signed up for Hulu and wanted to check out Marvel's live-action Runaways drama, you're in luck. Following the finale of Cloak & Dagger, Runaways will make their broadcast debut on Freeform.

On August 2, Marvel TV's Runaways will make the jump from Hulu to Freeform (formerly ABC Family).  The first episode will air directly after the season 1 finale of Cloak & Dagger (8est /7pst PM). However, there's a catch.

Only the first episode of Runaways will be shown, as the comic book adaptations shift from streaming to broadcast TV looks to be a temporary, one-time thing.

Also of interest is the fact that 20th Century Fox owns 30% of Hulu, which will naturally transfer over to Disney when the merger is finalized.  That certainly opens the door for a number of tantalizing possibilities, especially with the relationship between Netflix and Marvel appearing to sour a bit.

It's also possible that Marvel could simply yank all of the Fox-owned properties currently airing on Hulu and move them to the forthcoming Disney streaming service.

After discovering their parents are super-villains in disguise, a group of teenagers band together to run away from their homes in order to atone for their parents' actions and to discover the secrets of their origins.

Based on the comic book from Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphona.

This show and Castle Rock are the only 2 shows I like on hulu. I’ve heard great things about the Handmaid’s Tale but it doesn’t look like my cup of tea.

@HeavyMetal4Life - I haven’t watched Cloak and Dagger but I have a hard time believing anything on freeform is good.

@BreakTheCode - Apart from the guy playing Cloak sucking donkey balls as an actor, its actually more interesting, initially, than AoS, Gotham ever was. I feel like I know what the show runners are trying to do, and tho limited by budget and shitty tv station constraints, they are doing well with what they have

@BreakTheCode - FreeForm has some great shows like The Bold Type and Cloak and Dagger, and Grownish.

But why would you take content that you just bought. off of a streaming platform that you just bought, and put it on another platform that is supposed to be family friendly?

@LongMayHeReign - They changed the name of ABC Family to Freeform to move away from the perception of the channel being a family friendly only network. Freeform targets the same audiences CW is looking at.

@ScionStorm - "It's also possible that Marvel could simply yank all of the Fox-owned properties currently airing on Hulu and move them to the forthcoming Disney streaming service."

This is the statement I was referring to I honestly have no idea what you are talking about in terms of replying to what I said, so I'll just chalk it up to a miscommunication.

Interesting, with Cloak and Dagger being an unlikely hit there seems to be an avenue for more Marvel TV shows on that Network.

So does this mean that I should watch season 1 before it gets taken off Hulu?

Haven't gotten around to it, but it's definitely on my list.

I thought Runaways was a solid show. I read up on the comic after watching, and found it surprisingly more accurate than expected. My two cents...

Runaways, was kinda meh. I expected a little more from the parents. I really like C&D.
