New Rumors About Marvel Television's SDCC Plans; Is A Cloak And Dagger/Runaways Crossover In The Works?

With SDCC approaching ever closer, some early rumors about what may be shown at the conference have begun to surface. Find out more after the jump!

With SDCC just a few weeks out, early reports are trickling in about what may be shown. While the film side is taking the year off this time around, the TV side is not. From 4chan, a site reliable enough that it seems to fit current CBM editorial standards, has reports on some "leaked" details.

Basically here's Marvel's SDCC plans for their TV side:

Cloak and Dagger and Runaways panels, with Runaways a Season 2 premiere date in the fall (depending on Cloak and Daggers ratings they may announce a renewal)

Probably announcement of the Cloak and Dagger/Runaways crossover during the latter's second season (since CD will be off air by then)

Iron Fist/Daredevil Netflix panel. Iron Fist is in the fall. Will show first episode as a Goodwill move (basically rebranding him between Defenders and Luke Cage gueststarring reactions). Probably expect a Luke Cage renewal (they've announced a Netflix renewal every year these past two years).

No SHIELD this year now that it's a summer show.

Legion and Gifted panels.

If this report is indeed accurate, then it seems possible that were we're going to see a crossover that's not just cross channel, but cross platform. In addition, we may see some serious course correction and damage control for Iron Fist, under the new showrunner Raven Metzner, following his appearance in Luke Cage next week. I guess we'll just have to wait for sure to find out.

I sort of thought that they’d do something small for AOS just because of the fear of cancellation
Cloak and Dagger and The Runaways have a cool comic history and the shows both seem like a good match for a crossover so I’m hoping it’s true

Daredevil is the best marvel tv show made, bar none. Not a fan of LC, JJ, or Iron Fist as far as the tv shows go. Runaways was bad imo, and Cloak and Dagger is actually pretty good. So just DD and Cloak an Dagger for me.

@JeighJeigh - daredevil is definitely not that great. Seasons both lose momentum long before the finale, and season two’s endless ninja battles were repetitive and boring. Additionally they made foggy awful.

Curious how you could love daredevil and not like the first seasons of lc and jj

@JeighJeigh - If art wasn't subjective I would heavily disagree.

Since it isn't, I'll just state how I've felt about the MT shows, in order, particularly by season:

1. Legion season 1 - this is the best piece of work they've put out, in my mind, period. Not even comparable in terms of story telling quality and level to the other shows (which I have watched all of (except Cloak and Dagger, haven't had time)

2. AOS Season 4 - like, I know the show starts off bumpy, but I have never been so into AOS as I was during their least MCU connected season.

3. Legion Season 2 - I'll allow against this one.

4. DD S1 is probably still my favorite overall netflix season.

The rest have their pro's and con's (iron fist and inhumans excluded) that are just too much to get into.

I'm with @ReverseFlasher though, how could you love season 2 (post the punisher arc) and not have at least been into JJ s1 or the first half of LC s1?

Can someone explain to me the defenders hate? Or are we just moving on from it the same way the shows are (as if nothing ever happened)

@ReverseFlasher -

Luke Cage was good but lost me when they killed off Cottonmouth and Diamondback became the villain. His performance as Diamondback was a little too cheesy for me.

The only highlight of J.J. for me was The Purple Man. I loved his performance but I didn’t love when she was trying to convert him to do good. Of course it wasn’t going to work.

DD season 2 wasn’t as good as Season 1 but won me over when Elektra came in because I was a fan of their romance. And Jon was good as Frank Castle. I agree that the ninja stuff is a little dumb.

@ftf530 - I liked Legion and forgot to mention it. I watched AOS up until season 3. I am interested in the Ghost Rider arc. But you can read my reply to ReverseFlasher to answer your last question.

@JeighJeigh - go watch season four! Of the three arcs in the season, ghost rider is a relaxing warm up for what follows.

On your side about LC s1. It felt like most of what made the first half of the seasons "relevant" as the kids say, disappeared for the family drama that replaced it. And they went for a very Blaxploitation genre tone (sorry if I spelled that wrong) with Diamondback - and you're right, his tone really doesn't fit the rest of the show. Also, as much as I like nods to the greater MCU, they're gonna need to lock down a small Justin Hammer appearance or stop using Hammer Tech. That's gonna get old fast if it never materializes in the world Luke lives in.

Same on JJ s1. The lack of a central villain or any relevant fallout from defenders left s2 treading water for me.

I'm a fan of s2 of DD, but just don't have the energy to defend it.

@ftf530 -

Yeah, for whatever reason the 2nd half of the shows seem to go downhill. Except for DD. I don’t mind nods to the MCU as long as it feels natural and makes sense.

Sounds good! I will definitely check out season 4.

Need to finish Legion

@JeighJeigh - Sorry on the late response, been off the site for a week

but yeah

go finish legion and AOS s4

I consider those the gold standard of what Marvel TV can be

tho I still haven't watched cloak and dagger, which is apparently going really well
