SECRET INVASION Billed As Disney+'s First "Crossover Event Series" In Newly Revealed Synopsis

A new synopsis for Secret Invasion has billed it as Marvel Studios' first "crossover event series" (a description not given to any other MCU TV show on Disney+), but what does that mean for the series?

The comic book version of Secret Invasion was a massive event that kicked off with shape-shifting Skrulls replacing many of Earth's Mightiest Heroes in an effort to take control of the planet. From there, all-out war followed, with a full-blown invasion taking place (which, believe it or not, was ultimately stopped by Norman Osborn).

All signs point to the Disney+ TV series being much smaller in scale, following Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury as he looks to stop the invasion from ever happening in the first place.

However, we clearly shouldn't underestimate the show's scale if this newly surfaced plot synopsis is anything to go by. "Secret Invasion is a newly announced series heading to Disney+ that stars Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Ben Mendelsohn as the Skrull Talos," reads the streamer's official description, "characters who first met in Captain Marvel."

"The crossover event series showcases a faction of shape-shifting Skrulls who have been infiltrating Earth for years."

Does Secret Invasion being referred to as a "crossover event series" point to cameos and major links to other movies and TV shows? We'd have to guess so, especially based on some recent remarks from star Cobie Smulders (who plays Maria Hill).

"I mean when we think about the world that they're in, the Skrulls have been around since we saw them in Captain Marvel," she told Phase Zero at Comic-Con last weekend. "They've been building in numbers. And are they good? Are they bad? We're gonna find out in the show. But there's certainly a lot of them and so it sort of turns into this, 'Can I trust you? Can I not trust you?' And it's really cool. It's certainly fraught with a lot of tension."

We're definitely intrigued to see how much of an impact this show has on the wider MCU, especially with it coming right at the start of Phase 5 (and prior to The Marvels being released in theaters).

Unfortunately, with Kang the Conqueror set to take centre stage in The Multiverse Saga, we can't help but wonder if Skrulls won't be the major threat they once were in the comic books. We'll have to wait and see, though, and it feels like Marvel Studios probably has a lot of surprises in store for us. That may include the MCU debut of Union Jack based on a recent rumour.

Secret Invasion is set to premiere on Disney+ early next year.

Maaaaaaaan.....

Secret Wars and even Kang Dynasty are going to be full of Marvel variants!

If they brought back Toby and Andrew for NWH, Patrick Stewart for MoM how many surprise actors do you think Marvel will use for the Avengers Multiverse Saga films.

Not a doubt in my mind Hugh Jackman's Wolverine will be the the big surprise cameo of Secret Wars. Along with several other X-MEN. Betting Wesley Snipes Blade makes an appearance. Wouldn't be surprised if Ben Affleck's DD, damn near certain FOX's Fantastic Four shows up with Disney owning FOX. it's a 50/50 shot with any of them.

Just think about it...we all know this is the plan for SW which is a giant multiverse film ending the event.

Count on seeing RDJ in a variant of Ironman. Cap returning as well Black Widow. You can bet the house on it.

This movie will make around 2.7bil during pandemic!!

And Jon Watts is certain to direct it. You heard it first. He masterfully handled and paid homage to an ensemble cast in NWH.

DC was going to try and ride this hype train....Ezra ruined. All connecting Flashpoints projects have been cancelled. So Marvel is all alone with a epic multi film studio event cross over film surely to break the BO. Again.

@BO31 - I'm not sure I can see the entirety of Fox's Fantastic Four returning, but I wouldn't be surprised if MCU Reed met with a Council of Reeds at some point featuring both of Fox's versions of the character played by Ioan Gruffydd and Miles Teller. I'd also be surprised if Marvel leaned that heavily into Fox's version of X-Men before they've introduced their own version of the team - I could *maybe* see a Hugh Jackman Wolverine cameo (if Hugh feels like it by then) but I doubt we'd see any of the others come back.

I could maybe see Wesley Snipes as Blade though seeing as we'd also have Mahershala Ali's version by then so we could end up seeing both versions in the movie, and after NWH I think we HAVE to see Tobey and Andrew back again for a Spidey Reunion - hopefully they could step things up and bring back Emma Stone as a Gwen variant (Spider-Gwen) and maybe even introduce Miles somehow too.

@BO31 - All the variants standing side by side rushing into a war against thousands of Kangs

@AC1 - i agree. The Spiderbros have to and will make a SW appearance.

Im sure Marvel won't allow any older films to taint the brand in any way. So they'll be selective surley. It's no telling who is all going to be in those movies.

But SW is nothing but a multiverse event at it's core plus the end of the MCU Multiverse saga. After what Marvel has shown so far, how far they're willing to go imagine what they have planed for the brand. I'm 100% sure Hugh's Wolverine is making an apperance. Not sure about anyone else but him.

Certain they'll be more though

@SonOfAGif - this. So much this.

Movie is going to be insane.
SonOfAGif
SonOfAGif - 8/1/2022, 6:12 PM
@BO31 - I already see it going like this. Doctor Strange and 616 standing in defeat and suddenly America and the Young Avengers arrive with her punching hundreds of doorways with Wanda the Scarlet Witch amplifying America's powers opening rifts into every multiverse allowing heroes like Hugh Jackman's Wolverine and Robert Downey Jr's Tony Stark who is alive in an alternate reality to appear before Kang.

@SonOfAGif - That would make for a great intro to the 3rd act.

It's going to be nuts. The possibilties are endless. It's going to be a one of a kind surreal experience like no other watching that movie.

As a writer director you can play and chose to your hearts content and still couldn't mine all the best ideas.

Like, you could have MCU Hulk fastball Hugh's Wolverine.

The scene when Pepper's Rescue sees variant Tony.

The Spiderbros reuniting.

When Hulk and varaint Widow meet.

Variant Xavior tells Captain Marvel he can sense the mutant presents in our dimension.

You could come up with content forever

@BO31 - With all the possibilities I think the one I'm looking forward to most is the three Spider-bros remembering the events of No Way Home and hugging Peter 1 telling him that his sacrifice is part of the job and that no matter how hard life is, Spider-Man must exist for the good of mankind.

@BO31 - Look! They can go all out on this. If they do, I'd be more forgiving of the lack of cameos in MoM.

"This movie will make around 2.7bil during pandemic!!"

I sure hope another pandemic doesn't happen by the end of 2025! Oh.....you're talking about Covid? Are we even still considered to be in a pandemic when it comes to this stuff? Pretty sure movies are open and selling out again.

@CorndogBurglar - the theater has not completely recovred. Just facts.

@BO31 - True, but this also 3 years away. And China's box office is never fully reliable anyway because you never know when they are going to decide they don't want to show something.
DCasAhobby
DCasAhobby - 8/1/2022, 2:18 PM
@CorndogBurglar - you have to admit it was far more reliable than it is now. Marvel went from only one MCU film pre pandemic to ALL of them.

Big difference.

I hope you're right though.

@BO31 -
China's a communist dictatorship and it's a good thing that they have not recovered financially as they proceed to enter world war 3 because they want to subjugate Taiwan... frick China.

@BO31 - the theater has recovered, stop parroting that lie. Top Gun and yhe new Minions prove that. The issue is that people aren't going to support garbage.

Which means the MCU is in serious trouble

@CorndogBurglar - all China and Russia are doing are following the example set by the USA since 2001.

Did you Americans think that you would be the only ones allowed to invade and destroy countries on a whim whenever you want? Shit, you're illegally occupying one third of Syria tight now and stealing their oil and wheat so I'm not sure if you should be whining about the actions of other countries at the moment.

And no....you aren't the "good guys".

@Toblakai - I'm sorry I don't remember saying anything about America. But what example is it that Russia is following? Because I don't really remember America forcefully taking over any countries.

Is America perfect? Of course not. Are we the "good guys"? Of course not. America is just as shady as any other country. But America has never done what Russia is doing. So you can take that garbage somewhere else. Yes, they've occupied countries for their own gain. But America has never started a war and bombed innocent civilians and cities to take over other countries and make them part of the U.S. And even if they had, let's not pretend like they are the originators of that. That shit was going on long before America even existed.

@DCasAhobby - why would I be jealous of Marvel's success? I helped make them successful lol.

Saw every single MCU movie in theater and have the DVD for every movie as well. Some movies like Infinity War and Winter Soldier got me into the theater 2-3 times.

Jog on fool

@CorndogBurglar - you don't remember America forcefully taking over any countries? Holy hell, how old are you? 3?

You didn't mention America but made a point of mentioning Russia in the context of them doing some outlandish thing that was unprecedented.

Invading a country, overthrowing their government and occupying it isn't forcefully taking a country over? Greetings from Iraq and Afghanistan!

Arming militias and terrorist groups and using them as proxies to overthrow a government and install a pro USA regime isn't forcefully taking a country over? Libya, Syria and Yemen wave hello!

Like, I know that in general Americans are really really ignorant about what their government does but you really take the cake buddy
Toblakai
Toblakai - 8/3/2022, 12:22 AM
@CorndogBurglar - and to top it all off.....Russia isn't even "taking over a country". They have seized the eastern part of Ukraine which is almost 100% ethnic Russian.

What Russianis doing in Ukraine is somewhat similar to how the USA has seized one third of Syria and is occupying it right now while stealing Syrian oil and wheat. Gee, I can't imagine that stealing wheat and grains from Syria would have any bad consequences hey? Sure hope Syrians don't experience another US caused famine like they did before the "civil war" kicked off.
