With over a million Skrulls on Earth, the shape-shifters are still massively outnumbered by humanity. However, their ability to look like anyone means they can do more damage than any army, something which was evident from today's episode of Secret Invasion, "Betrayed."
Gravik enacts a plan that will lead to World War III, prompting Nick Fury and Talos to reunite and race into action. They need to stop a British submarine from gunning down a plane carrying United Nations delegates and manage to do so thanks to Gi'ah's timely intervention.
There's no way Talos' daughter can now hide the fact she's the traitor in Gravik's midst so she escapes his compound...only to find him waiting there for her.
After a brief exchange, the villain guns Gi'ah down and, as she falls to the floor dead, the rebel reverts to her original Skrull form. Yes, they just killed Emilia Clarke's character after the actress appeared in just three episodes of the Disney+ series!
So much for those theories she's going to become the MCU's Abigail Brand, eh?
While the next week is likely going to see people raging over the fact Clarke was "wasted" in the MCU, we can't discount the possibility that Gi'ah isn't actually dead. For starters, a quick look at the show's trailers (and set photos, for that matter) confirms there are scenes with her character which haven't aired yet, suggesting she's very much alive and well in future instalments.
As for how that can be explained, Gi'ah may have secretly undergone the procedure to become a Super-Skrull after snooping around the device, thereby meaning Extremis will heal her wounds and give her the chance to fight another day.
Alternatively, Marvel Studios just pulled off one of its biggest twists by casting the Game of Thrones star in a minor supporting role and killing her character off after just a few weeks.
What do you think?
