Tomorrow, with the series premiere of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, fans will finally get a chance to see what Smart Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) has been up to since the events of Avengers: Endgame - and will also get some insight into his time during the Blip as he trains his cousin Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany) in the ways of being a Hulk.
She-Hulk has a considerably different tone than anything that's come before in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so when we caught up with director Kat Coiro, we asked her about her initial conversations with Mark Ruffalo on where he wanted to take his character next, after having inhabited the role for a decade.
"Mark is an incredible, open actor, and even though he'd been playing Hulk for a decade, he came in understanding that this was a new genre and a new exploration of the character and all of our MCU characters like Wong and Emil Blonsky, and Smart Hulk had to adjust to the fact that this is different, in-tone," she said. "There's a lot of dialogue, there's a lot of comedy, and they all leaned into it, and I like to say that life is not a genre, life can be funny, and it can be tragic, and much like this show, you have moments of humor, and then you have moments of pathos."
As for Daredevil, who has been revealed in the recent trailers, Coiro couldn't exactly speak on the role he'll play in Jennifer's journey this season, but she did share that Charlie Cox embraced the series' unique tone and was ready to deliver a never-before-seen side of the Man Without Fear.
"Well, I can't speak specifically to how he fits into her journey, but I will say that we had the same experience with him that we did with the other MCU actors, which is that it's definitely, especially with Daredevil, a much lighter tone than he's ever been involved with before and he adapted to that quite quickly and we get to see a new side of Daredevil I think."
