Jon Bernthal Offers An Update On THE PUNISHER; Promises To Do Frank Castle's Story Justice
Daredevil star Jon Bernthal talks here about preparing to return as Frank Castle in The Punisher spinoff being planned by Netflix, but it sounds like it's still very much early days...
Deadline has a very interesting chat up with Jon Bernthal about his take on The Punisher, a character who will soon have his own spinoff series on Netflix. When exactly that will happen is currently unclear, especially as the online streaming service seemingly intends to air only two of these Marvel shows a year. However, it's on the way, and the actor is excited to pick up with Frank Castle's story again.
"I’m tremendously excited about it," he tells the trade when asked about where things currently stand with the spinoff series announced earlier this year. "I look at it as a real joy and a real responsibility and a real honor to play Frank Castle. I feel like he’s in my bones now and he’s in my heart. I’m ready to keep going with him. As far as what this show’s going to be, and what it’s going to be about, and when it’s going to shoot, and where it’s going to shoot and all that, unfortunately I don’t know anything. It’s kind of part and parcel with the way that Marvel works. Information is definitely on a need to know basis. I am nervous, and I just want to do this character and this world justice."
It's entirely possible that we'll see Bernthal reprise this role in The Defenders before his spinoff starts shooting, but we're just going to have to wait and see. Expect more details to be revealed at this year's New York Comic-Con based on past experience, though it's obviously possible we'll hear something in San Diego next month too.
