In every medium, whether it be written, sung, drawn or shown, entertainment is a form of escape, especially when considering fiction. While it’s always enjoyable to escape from the mundanity of our daily lives, sometimes entertainment becomes more necessary than we give it credit for. When pressures are high, and the world seems too lost for any proper resolution to take shape, these escapes into fiction help us cope with the day to day and to better understand ourselves. If 2016 has taught us anything, it’s that escape is a powerful tool, one we sorely need. Getting lost in fantastical worlds, imagining magical settings, and finding enjoyment in things or persons that could never be, might prove to be more therapeutic than anything a psychiatrist may prescribe. But we’re not board certified, so don’t take our word for it.

While we don’t profess to have seen or played every title or series featured in this video, it was our wish to include as many varied choices as possible to appeal to as many viewers as possible. Whether or not you liked all the films, shows or games included in the video, it was important for us to showcase both the good and the bad. And though we did our best to include as many geeky properties as were released this year as could fit, we invariably missed something or many somethings, and we mean no offense by forgetting [insert title here].

We chose to use this particular remix of ‘Closer (feat. Halsey),’ with the full understanding that this video cannot be monetized accordingly, because it encapsulates 2016 so well. If ads do appear, please note that it is the copyright holder of the song that will be receiving any potential revenue.

We hope you enjoyed this video, and can name as many titles as possible! How many do you recognize?
