Several actors who got their big breaks on Game of Thrones have since made (or will soon make) the jump to the MCU, but had things worked out a little differently, one current Marvel mainstay might have bypassed the shared superhero world altogether to play the Mother of Dragons in HBO's epic fantasy series.
Back in 2019, Elizabeth Olsen (WandaVision, Avengers: Endgame) revealed that she auditioned for the role of Daenerys Targaryen. The actress indicated that her reading didn't go particularly well, and has now elaborated while speaking to THR.
"Yes, I auditioned for Game of Thrones. I auditioned for, like, the assistant to the casting director in a small room in New York with just a camera on me and them reading the script. I was doing the Khaleesi speech when she comes out of the fire. It was awful. I didn’t get a callback."
Of course, the actress who would ultimately land the role of Dany, Emilia Clarke, will soon make her MCU debut as a mysterious character in the Disney+ Secret Invasion series. Perhaps in some part of the Multiverse, Olsen nabbed the part of the Khaleesi while Clarke went on to play the Scarlet Witch!
