Disney+ Acts Quickly To Debunk Reports WHAT IF...? Season 2 Will Arrive As Soon As Next Month

With rumours swirling that What If...? season 2 could arrive on Disney+ as soon as a few weeks from now, the streaming service has acted quickly to debunk those claims. Find the latest after the jump...

What If..? proved to be a fun ride, and while some episodes were better than others, the animated series delivered the wacky trip through the Multiverse fans had been hoping for.

Season 2 has already been confirmed and is expected to premiere on Disney+ later this year. Earlier today, Murphy's Multiverse ran a since-deleted story about a newsletter for the streaming service sent out to customers in the Netherlands. On it, What If...? was listed as returning as soon as July 20 - a pretty unbelievable date seeing as that's less than three weeks from now.

Marvel Studios hasn't released so much as a single second of footage from the series. With that in mind, it would be pretty baffling for the show to just be randomly dropped between Ms. Marvel and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law

Disney+ Netherlands (via The Direct) has now confirmed that the July 2022 release date for What If...? season 2 was incorrect, so we can put this particular rumour to bed before it gets started.

We've found that the streaming service doesn't tend to reveal premiere dates too far in advance, so it's hard to even guess where this series will fit into a pretty busy 2022. After all, even after She-Hulk arrives, there's still whatever that Werewolf by Night Halloween special is and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special to squeeze in.

However, based on when those projects are probably heading our way, we'd bank on seeing more What If...? either in September or November.

Now that Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has confirmed they will have a presence at Comic-Con, announcements about the Phase 4 slate are likely imminent. We also have Disney+ Day and D23 to look forward to this September, both of which are likely to bring a lot of big news.

What are you hoping to see when What If...? returns later this year?

With the busy meticulous MCU lineup, never mind the two years of pandemic delays, there's simply no way.

What If.... eeeehh?😉😝

What if They debunked it so quickly because it's true and they plan on announcing season 2's launch at SDCC?

Seems like a Feige/Marvel Studios move...

@xfan320 - I could see them showing that missing Mad Titan Gamora episode as I assume that episode was pretty far along anyway already, but nothing like a full season.

At this point I'm lost with how many Marvel shows are in the works and are being released, that I'm not keeping up with release dates anymore anyway.

Even if it's premiere's release date is already this summer, I'll probably wait for all episodes to be online. Keeping up with the MCU really has become a full-time job, just like keeping up with the comics was (which I already kinda gave up on too).

@bkmeijer1 - this is a good problem to have if you are a nerd. hell i want more mcu. my problem is the slow meticulous torturous drip drip of information that comes from feige about future stuff. we still dont know any official story or anything about black panther 2 and thats coming in november. im not asking for spoilers. im just tired of all the same ol rumors, speculation and hype being thrown around as news cause there's no news coming from anyone official. the wait between projects is better than it was but still agonizing when you know so much cool shit is coming.

@supermanrex - I don't mind we're not always getting news, as there's almost a constant stream of MCU stuff being released (whether that is movies, series or making offs). Feel we don't really have to wait for MCU stuff in general.

For particular stuff I agree the wait is affected knowing that something is coming, but not what. Guess that's also a good problem if you are a nerd.

Delay What If 2 as long as you need. That next season needs to stay in the oven as long as possible.

50 min episodes for season 2!

They should only release What If seasons in between phases. Let the What If take care of any plot holes, fan casts, do-overs etc. Or even soft launch a new character.

@QuietStorm - at the rate new MCU projects are released every year, they can release a new season almost every (other) year.

We need atleast two more seasons to just cover the movies and shows we've seen so far.

@QuietStorm - they should release 2 to 3 episodes per week, waiting a week for lackluster 20 minutes episodes was a drag to me and very unrewarding

@Dannywest - Very true!

Lol… if it’s not a quote from Marvel Studios or Kevin Feige I won’t believe it anyway. When did Rumors and fan theories become such responsive fake news? It’s fun to guess what’s going on but there is more b.s. than actual news.
I’m hoping season 2 of What If starts connecting a little more to the actual MCU events.

Season 1 was good but the last episode was too short for what they were trying to do. It felt rushed. That should hopefully fix that in season 2.

The first season was mediocre at best but most episodes fairly boring. Hope they step up their game for season 2

Kind of off topic but what would be fun for Marvel to do is to have a live action film (maybe the next Deadpool film) that would feature an all star cast of some of the secondary characters from all of the Marvel films. It would tie together those films, give fans a bunch of easter eggs, and depending on the story expand the relevance of some of these characters...some of the candidates include:

Kat Dennings (Darcy) - Thor
Akwafina (Katy) - Shang Chi
Zach Cherry ("Do a flip" Street Vendor) - Spiderman Homecoming
David Dastmalchian (Kurt Goreshter) - Ant Man
Jon Favreau (Happy Hogan) - Iron Man
Harish Patel (Karun) - Eternals
Michael Stuhlbarg (Nicodemus West) - Doctor Strange
Nelson Franklin (Medical Examiner) - Captain Marvel
Alexis Rhee (Sofia) - Black Panther

@Forthas - Isn't that kinda WandaVision? A show about two of the Avengera with the least screentime, plus Darcy, the FBI agent from Ant-Man and the Wasp, and even the newly introduced Monica is the daughter of a previous supporting player.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 6/30/2022, 11:59 AM
@Forthas - maybe not for Deadpool specifically, but I do wanna see some supporting characters show up in stuff besides the things they're originally supporting characters in. WandaVision did that pretty well with Darcy and Woo

@DalekCraigWasson - Yeah! kind of...I am saying they should lean in to it even more.
