The latest trailer for Marvel Studios and Disney+'s What If? featured heaps of big reveals, but when it kicked off by revisiting the events of 2008's Iron Man, it was hard not to immediately be distracted by the fact that Tony Stark clearly isn't being voiced by Robert Downey Jr.
It's clear now that not every actor from the Marvel Cinematic Universe has reprised their respective roles from the movies, because The Vision blatantly sounded like a completely different person to Paul Bettany. Despite that, there are definitely some big names in the animated series, with Chris Hemsworth, Michael Rooker, and the late Chadwick Boseman all returning as their characters.
Now, Variety may have offered some insight into who won't be back because they note that "Tony Stark, Steve Rogers, The Collector, Doctor Strange, Captain Marvel and Howard the Duck are also in the series, but with different voice actors than their MCU film counterparts."
Seth Green has since taken to Twitter to confirm he will be voicing Howard, so it's unclear how accurate that list is. Based on what we can hear in this trailer, though, it is apparent that Robert Downey Jr. and Benedict Cumberbatch won't be part of the proceedings. The question is, should that matter?
Money and scheduling issues likely explain why not everyone ended up returning for What If?, but there's bound to be a risk that it will feel a little jarring watching the series when we go from hearing a familiar voice to one who doesn't really sound much like what we're used to from the big screen.
