WHAT IF...? Season 2 Premiere Date Reportedly Revealed - Will Be Released In A Completely New Way On Disney+

Season 2 of What If...? has a rumoured premiere date on Disney+, but the biggest surprise is that the animated series will be released in a completely different way from any other Marvel Studios TV show.

What If...? season 1 was among the first Marvel Studios TV shows to premiere on Disney+ in 2021 alongside WandaVision and The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. Based on comments the creative team made at the time, the plan had been for season 2 to follow in 2022.

However, with 2023 very nearly over, it was only recently revealed that the long-awaited follow-up to the animated series will arrive on Disney+ "This Holiday Season." Rumours are swirling that a trailer is going to drop any moment now, but in the meantime, The Cosmic Circus (via Toonado.com) has today chimed in to reveal exactly when the show will premiere on the streaming platform.

According to the site, it's heading our way on December 22, with new episodes dropping daily between then and December 30. This is a stark contrast to the first batch of episodes - and every other MCU TV series, for that matter - which were released weekly after a three-episode premiere.

The site also teases that, "this season will have a far bigger impact on the 616 timeline."

This is all the information we have for the time being, but Disney recently shared a brief synopsis confirming we'll hear the voices of even more MCU stars.

The Watcher continues the journey as our guide through the vast multiverse, introducing brand-new and familiar faces throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The animated anthology series questions, revisits and twists classic Marvel Cinematic moments with an incredible voice cast that includes a host of stars who reprise their iconic roles

Earlier this Fall, a supposed list of What If...? season 2 episode titles found its way online. Today, we can also share an updated episode order which reveals how and when each instalment will arrive on Disney+.

• What If... Nebula Joined the Nova Corps? (December 22)
• What If... Peter Quill Attacked Earth's Mightiest Heroes? (December 23)
• What If... Happy Hogan Saved Christmas? (December 24)
• What If... Iron Man Crashed into the Grandmaster? (December 25)
• What If... Captain Carter Fought the Hydra Stomper? (December 26)
• What If... The Avengers Assembled in 1602? (December 27)
• What If... Hela found the Ten Rings? (December 28)
• What If... Kahhori Reshaped the World? (December 29)
• What If... Strange Supreme Intervened? (December 30)

The belief is that Marvel Studios has plans for three seasons of What If...?, not to mention the Marvel Zombies spin-off. That was announced at last year's San Diego Comic-Con, but like all of the MCU's animated offerings (Spider-Man: Freshman Year and X-Men '97, for example), we still have no confirmed premiere dates.

Yup. Really not expecting much. We have no footage and it's about a month away.

These updated What Ifs episode titles already make it sound a bit more interesting tham the rumoured ones, but still I'm not sold. Look forward to more Strange Supreme though.

Also, I kinda expected it to release three episodes a week for three weeks in a row. Guess this works too

Great strategy. So when I get exhausted from all the holiday family time, I can dip off to my basement and dive into an episode, recharge, have a beer, then go rejoin the chaos upstairs

You know when I take a step back and look at all the things that are actively being made in the MCU right now.... Not a single project seems like a triple A must see "Dream come true" project, when that is all the MCU once was, dream come true films.

Who is even green lighting projects anymore, because it isn't a comics person and hasn't been in a long time.

@TheVandalore - Loki Season 2 was fantastic. Definitely a dream come true type of project. I also feel like No Way Home was a dream come true project.

Must say I do like that the animated shows can impact the 616 mcu. May not happen with xmen 97, but they clearly were ahead of me planning it here

Multiverse saga is in full effect now folks

@Vigor - I think they should return to the Agents of Shield and Netflix model - movies can impact the shows but shows can impact the movies (besides the one example of the heli carrier but you didn’t have to watch Agents of Shield for that moment in Winter Soldier to make sense).

There are too many people in the GA that aren’t watching the shows. I know for people keeping up with everything, these connections and easter eggs are fun, but it’s hurting the brand. It’s just not realistic to expect a large number of people to keep up with 14 separate movie franchises and 9 different TV shows. It’s a lot to ask. It’s becoming more niche, and it isn’t a good thing to have larger portions of the GA that can’t keep up.

Cool, starts on the first day of my vacation. Will be watching this when I'm off. The Iron Man episode is on Christmas Day, nice, thanks D+ for the Christmas gift. lol.

I liked the first season just fine although I felt some stories didn't reach their full potential but I did like the team-up at the end. I assume the new variants introduced in this season will team up again to take on Supreme Strange.

Some of these sound a little more creative than just "What if X character was X character all of a sudden?"

@MovieMonster - Hoping this season is more creative. The first season honestly felt like a lot of rushed rehashes of existing movies, with character swaps.

@RoberTiger - Marvel would kill it if What If was basically Battleworld unfolding the entire time with the character swaps and what not.

Am I misremembering something or wasn’t there an episode with an insane title that was revealed a while back?
mountainman
mountainman - 11/14/2023, 12:12 PM
@Oberlin4Prez - I think it’s the native american girl finding the Tesseract.

The original title was more convoluted than “ What If... Kahhori Reshaped the World?”

Why aren't we seeing The Watcher in any non animated Marvel movies or tv shows?

He was seen in a small cameo or something like that in a GOTG movie?

But now we are in "the multiverse saga" with different timelines and universes and stuff like that in several movies and tv shows but he only appears in "What If"?

Guess he'll be in Kang Dinasty or Secret Wars, maybe not a big role, but he should be there.

None of these sound particularly interesting aside from Kahhori and maybe Hela finding the Ten Rings. I just don't understand why'd she'd find them useful.

Just glad we get a 1602 episode, gives me confidence we could get a Noir focused episode down the line.

So, a new episode a day for 9 straight days over Christmas break? My wife and kids are gonna HATE this. I LOVE it! (In all actuality I fully expect them to stage a coup after about the 3rd or 4th day and I'm going to find myself tied to a chair, stripped of my remote, and forced to watch "Mickey's Clubhouse" or some shit. Don't EVER underestimate the combined strength of a 4 and 7 year old hell-bent on watching THEIR shows 😳).
