Jupiter's Legacy is a one-and-done at Netflix.
The first (and only) season of the bloody adaptation of Mark Millar's comic series received mixed reviews from critics, and evidently didn't go over particularly well with viewers, either, because the show will not be returning for a sophomore run. Deadline reports that Netflix and Millar went in a different creative direction, and the cast, led by Josh Duhamel, Leslie Bibb and Ben Daniels, has now been let out of their commitments.
Millar says he's “confident we’ll return to it later,” but for the time being, he'll be working on a live-action Supercrooks series for the streamer.
Like the comic it's based on, the super-powered heist series about a rag-tag bunch of supervillains is expected to be set in the same universe as Jupiter's Legacy, but it's yet to be confirmed whether characters from Season 1 of the show will appear.
You can check out Millar's full statement below, along with a logline for Supercrooks.
"Supercrooks is a return to the world of Jupiter’s Legacy with a rag-tag gang of super-villains, con-artists, petty thieves and leg-breakers who all band together for the heist of the century and the most outrageous crime story you’ve ever seen in your life. Crime pays and they’re going to prove it. Some people just want to have the time of their lives and make a little dirty money while they’re doing it. If the superheroes get in the way they’re going to be spitting teeth."
Netflix is still said to be "high on the IP," and the current Millarworld deal includes future adaptations of The Magic Order, American Jesus, Empress, Huck, Sharkey The Bounty Hunter and Prodigy.
