This one seems to have flown under the radar a little, but we now have a first official look at Robert Rodriguez's new Netflix superhero flick, We Can Be Heroes.

The children's adventure movie is actually a "spiritual sequel" to the director's 2005 hit The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl, and is set in the same universe. The story focuses on members of a superhero team called the Heroics being captured by alien invaders, leaving their kids to save the day.

Pedro Pascal will play the group's leader Marcus Moreno, who's daughter Missy (YaYa Gosselin) rounds up 10 fellow super-powered youngsters to rescue the Heroics. Christian Slater (Mr. Robot), Boyd Holbrook (Logan), and Sung Kang (The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift) will play some of the other supes, but we have no details on their characters. Priyanka Chopra is believed to be playing the villain.

Here we see Logan actor Boyd Holbrook as an unnamed Heroic member being captured by what appears to be a giant robot.

“A lot of families have spent a lot of time together,” Rodriguez explains to EW when asked why he chose We Can Be Heroes as his next project. “I’ve been getting calls from all kinds of studios: ‘Reboot Spy Kids.’ ‘Reboot Sharkboy.’ Of course they want to. They’re all sitting at home with their kids.”

Pedro Pascal as Marcus Moreno, who is on the verge of retirement when his team is kidnapped.

“I’ve wanted to work with Pedro since forever,” Rodriguez says. “[Marcus] can be a badass if he needs to. He takes the glasses off, and he looks legit.”

Prianka Chopra as the mysterious Ms. Gradenko. Is she playing the villain? Based on this pic, it's probably a safe enough assumption.

Missy and her crew. We don't know much about any of the other young heroes, but one of 'em is named Facemaker, and has the ability to alter his appearance. “[For] a kid, that’s an amazing power,” says Rodriguez. “What if you could become anyone else?”

We Can Be Heroes doesn't have a premiere date yet.

Okay, I guess.

Which one of you guys have been calling to "Reboot Spy Kids"?

@CyberNigerian - not me. I just dont think that'll work without the Rodriguez touch. And his more recent efforts with kids movies have been pretty bad.

As corny as his movies are, I have extremely fond memories of the Spy Kids movies growing up. If this can do something similar for a newer generation, cut Robert the check!

I liked Spy Kids when I was really young. It was the right kind of corny and wholesome and this looks to be in the same vein.

@BlackBeltJones - I remember seeing the third one in cinemas with those red/blue 3D glasses. Good times.

Cool cast. Rodriguez seems busy as hell these days, interested in that mid-budget film he’s doing w/ Affleck

@tmp3 - From the sounds of it, the film keeps running into legal battles or something. I heard they might just scrap the whole thing.

Great! My 5 year old daughter absolutely loves Shark Boy & Lava Girl! She'll be very excited to hear this

@narrow290 -

My daughter loves it as well, and she was probably the same age as your daughter when she first saw it.
She's a bit older now, so hopefully she can enjoy this

I wouldn’t usually have any interest in this whatsoever but it has Haley Reinhart in her first acting role, and she is my celebrity crush these days so I’m intruiged. Listen (and watch) her sing Seven Nation Army with Postmodern Jukebox, you’ll fall in love too, surely.

I like that Rodriguez has said he likes doing serious movies and children's movies so his own Kid's can see his stuff.

Robert Rodriguez is one of those directors where you can tell it's him just by looking at the first 30 minutes of the movie.

@KWilly - 30 minutes?

3 minutes. Not a criticism, it's just he has a signature look that cannot be missed.
