As Expected, VENOM Is Officially NOT Set In The Marvel Cinematic Universe

Despite rumours of Tom Holland's Peter Parker making an appearance in Venom, a new report confirms what we all expected: the Sony Pictures movie won't have any ties to the Marvel Cinematic Universe...

Entertainment Weekly recently put up a post on Venom, a movie which will be receiving the spotlight at Comic-Con next weekend. In that article, director Ruben Fleischer and star Tom Hardy shed some light on their plans for the symbiote but there was no mention of Spider-Man, a character who is essential to the world of Eddie Brock (his origin story will be unrecognisable without the wall-crawler).

Well, we can forget about any nods to the world of Peter Parker or that rumoured cameo appearance from Tom Holland because the site has seemingly provided confirmation about Venom's MCU ties.

"Venom is the first of Sony’s new films based on characters from the Spider-Man comics, although it’s a separate world from last year’s Spider-Man: Homecoming. (It’s also not part of the deal between Sony and Disney that allows Tom Holland’s Spidey into the Marvel Cinematic Universe)." This is no great surprise and was to be expected but it's still hard not to be a little disappointed.

With any luck, Comic-Con will shed some light on plans for Venom and how Sony intends to make his origin story different now that Spider-Man isn't going to be part of that. What do you guys think? As always, be sure to let us know your thoughts and theories on this news in the comments section.

Totally expect this movie to fizzle at the box office. Then, if Marvel Studios can extend the Sony deal, we will see a different version of Venom introduced in an MCU-related film.

@CavemanKiller - If I'm speaking from my gut and general perception of Feige, I feel even if Venom were to fail spectacularly, I don't see Feige showing any interest in Venom. HOWEVER, I though he would have no interest in Norman Osborn, but a smalltime writer heard something about how Marvel asked Sony to leave Norman out of the spinoffs, implying they want control over his character, so what do I know. That could also be some bad info or full on BS, but yeah.
