RUMOR UPDATE: Tom Holland Will Reportedly Appear As Peter Parker But Not Spider-Man In VENOM

Collider's Jon Schnepp has updated his recent rumor that Spidey will be swinging into Sony's Venom movie, and now claims that while actor Tom Holland will appear, it'll be as plain ol' Peter Parker...

We recently reported on a rumor that Spider-Man would be showing up for a cameo appearance in Sony Pictures' Venom movie, and now Collider's Jon Schnepp has simultaneously doubled-down on and walked back elements of his initial report.

While appearing on the latest episode of Collider Heroes, Schnepp remained adamant that Tom Holland would appear in the spin-off, but not in his red 'n blue underoos.

“Tom Holland was on set filming scenes on Venom for at least two days as Peter Parker. Ok, so I’m not saying that Spider-Man is in the film. When I say that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is in the film, I’m saying ‘Peter Parker is in the film. This is a cameo. I don’t know what it is. I didn’t read the script.”

Of course, whether it's Peter Parker or Spider-Man, the implications remain the same: Holland's presence confirms that movie shares continuity with Spider-Man: Homecoming, and is at least connected to the greater Marvel Cinematic Universe.

We'll have to wait and see if this turns out to be on the level, but there's definitely going to be a lot of disappointed Spidey fans if Schnepp has received some bad info.

Venom is set to hit theaters on October 5, 2018.

@Kevwebsz - Poor guy. All he wanted was for Spiderman to exist in the MCU. Now Sony found a way to tarnish the MCU continuity.

And as I said yesterday. Disney owns the new suit. They created it and within the contract, Sony cannot use it without Marvel Studios giving them the ok.

With that being said. Venom will more than likely be set within the MCU and act as a spinoff if people want it to. The way The Defenders exist within the MCU if fans want it to.

@SonOfAGif - So it doesn't exist then. Because it's very clear Feige doesn't consider the shows canon.

Venom can be whatever the hell it wants to be. Feige can keep it at arms length and erase it from the MCU if the movie is shit.

And the movie is made by Arad as producer sooo...

@SonOfAGif - Feige has said that Hulk (2003) can be canon if you as a fan wants.

They keep telling me this is in the MCU, yet no matter what happens, I still don't believe it.

@noahthegrand - The reason we don't believe it is because this film was never formely announced by Marvel Studios nor were there any traces of Marvel Studios playing a role in the current production.

One has to wonder though why do they want Tom Holland to be the Spiderman and not Andrew Garfield? Creating a Spiderverse film is a lot easier for the audience to swallow instead of possibly damaging the MCU.

@SonOfAGif - Why would they want to continue with a series that clearly can't continue with an actor they had a falling out with? And remember, Holland was Sony's choice.
