VENOM: Prepare To Have Nightmares Tonight By Taking A Look At This Officially Released Hi-Res Image

Following their CinemaCon presentation last night, Sony debuted a new trailer for Venom which has divided fans. Can the "anti-hero" really work without Spider-Man? Regardless, he certainly looks the part!

If you completely disregard the fact that Venom has close ties to the world of Spider-Man, the first full-length trailer for the movie is hard to fault. The special effects are questionable in places but it looks like a fun adventure for the character which will deliver a solid origin story and interesting dynamic for Eddie Brock and Venom. Unfortunately, it's hard to get over how unfaithful to the source material it is.

As a result, Venom may feature some familiar names but removing Peter Parker from the worlds of both Eddie and his alien costume is bound to have a detrimental impact on the character. On the plus side, Venom does at least look like Venom which is evident from the glorious hi-res "first look" image which Sony has sent over to us this morning. You can count every tooth in the anti-hero's mouth!

There's nothing to say Venom won't be a good movie, of course, but it seems we'll just have to accept it for what it is rather than fret too much about the comic books. Worryingly, Tom Hardy said at CinemaCon that he chose to star in the Marvel Comics adaptation so his son could watch it, a sign perhaps that it won't be R-Rated as many fans had hoped. Despite that, Venom still looks pretty scary...
