VENOM Trailer Is Now The Most-Viewed In The SPIDER-MAN Franchise's History

We have a lot of reasons to suspect that Venom won't be all that great but it appears as if there's an awful lot of interest in the Spidey-less spinoff because the trailer has some huge viewing numbers...

Since being introduced, Venom's popularity has never waned and there's no real reason to suspect that the character's upcoming movie won't be a hit, right? Well, Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach's involvement has a lot of fans worried after what they did with The Amazing Spider-Man franchise and the fact the movie clearly won't be sticking to the source material is definitely cause for concern for most of us.

The spinoff's first teaser trailer was widely ridiculed for basically being Tom Hardy: The Movie but the second provided a look at Venom in action and shed some light on how Eddie Brock's origin story will be handled minus Spider-Man. Now, it seems that first glimpse generated more interest than expected because
with 64 million views, the Venom trailer has actually beaten all previous Spider-Man movies!

The Amazing Spider-Man did 37 million views, while Spider-Man: Homecoming managed 28 million views. However, trailer views don't translate into box office takings and this is still a far cry from Avengers: Infinity War's record-breaking 202 million views. Sony could have also paid for the trailer to be advertised which would have also increased views. Regardless, the studio is no doubt very happy.

sony clearly paid for extra views. fox did the same for gifted tv show (i think that trailer has been removed since). just look at the number of likes. cap 3 trailer has 80 mil views and half as many likes. sony's marketing department is desperate.

@rebellion - I don't know how true this is but for the first teaser trailer some people were claiming in the YouTube comment section that there were bots there.

People watch trailers a lot more than they did even 5 years ago. This can be a bit misleading. I really dont understand the following of trailer statistics.

@Shy412 - Plus videos auto play in your Facebook feed, which is probably jacking up the view count.

I don't think this should be so surprising though. A very high number, sure, but even if there's a lot of negativity surrounding the film, I think there's a lot of curiosity too.

We were all very happy with Footage they released. Taking a page from Nolan and his BB approach they showed just enough of the Symbiote to wet the appetite while also appealing to the more General Audience.

What was very striking what the positive reaction it got from the fans who have been looking for a little different flavor to their CBM. Numerous people it was to speak with regarding the darker tone with a stronger hint of sci fi thriller that they haven’t been receiving form other studios.

It should be a great litmus test though. We’ve reached the point where studio branding on viewers has taken a firm hold whether the viewer is generally aware or not.

But from the initial buzz this is shaping up to be al exciting capper to a great CBM season.

I really, really wanna love this. If Hollywood gave me free reign as a director to make any Marvel comic film I wanted, a solo Venom movie starring Tom Hardy probably isn’t far off what I’d choose. But the trailers really let me down except for that shot of Venom at the end. I just hope it has a sense of style and wit, maybe some good music and cinematography (which we haven’t seen from it yet- I mean look what Legion accomplishes!) and delves into some really dark themes and territory. I’ve always wanted to see a big budget antihero film that shows the protagonist giving into his darker side. We need a Punisher-style hero with the effects and spectacle and super powers of an MCU film. The darkest stuff and the most likeable evil characters are always the best. Look at Ledger’s Joker. Every time I watch TDK I’m like Batman who?

Anyway... fingers crossed!

(But man that is an AWFUL, cheap, AWFUL poster)

Great to hear since that second trailer is infinitely better than the first but unfortunately those views won't matter if the movie is bad. Suicide Squad was the most talked about movie on Twitter before it came out but that didn't save it when it was released.

If anything this is more pressure for Venom to do well since thats 64 million people who could turn on the movie.

Don’t be happy just yet, Sony is all I’m saying

I've watched the trailer many times. I like the way the music plays once his change starts to happen, and the progressive build of the inner voice. The movie doesn't necessarily look exceptional, though I think it will be a bit of fun either way, but the last trailer certainly has its intrigues.

A lot of views are likely attributed to people just having to see how bad venom looked and sharing for that specific reason.

This movie is going to be average and uninspired, just like every single other attempt by Sony to milk Spidey has been so far. And when it does end up disappointing, just know I called it.
