Venom: Let There Be Carnage exceeded expectations critically (it currently has a higher score than Marvel Studios' Eternals), but like that first instalment in 2018, it's proved to be a box office hit as well.
While the numbers aren't quite as strong this time around - primarily thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic - the Venom sequel just had another great weekend. With $205.4 million overseas as of Sunday, the movie is quickly approaching the $400 million mark at the worldwide box office with $395.8 million. The first movie made $856.1 million when it was released three years ago.
Tracking ahead of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Venom: Let There Be Carnage looks set to become the highest grossing movie of 2021. You'd think Spider-Man: No Way Home would be guaranteed to earn that accolade, but most of its box office haul is likely to be made in early 2022.
We'll keep you updated, but some new concept art from senior concept artist at Double Negative, Brandon Gobey, offers up a badass look at Carnage in action. We see the villain during both the final battle and that prison break sequence, and the latter is particularly interesting as it drives home the fact that Cletus was more symbiote than man (we're guessing that's how he'll eventually return).
